  1. This is what I know, rogers doesn't have to be at the top of the division, as long as they keep jose and EE there, sign a beurhle once in a while, have them overachieve , they'll be ok on the tv ratings side of things. If jose and EE had their best years on other clubs, there's NO way they would be on the jays today. If melky didn't go through what he did with the peds, same thing.
  2. That's what it seems, they did the same thing with JP after they tried with BJ and AJ, now after the JJ and dickey experience, we're going through it all over again. Getting stuck with bad contracts doesn't seem to bother other teams in the division. Jays play like they're a small market team, but they have their games broadcast throughout the whole country, they bring in much more tv revenue than most teams.
  3. Ok, I guess you know everything, no use in having a discussion.
  4. They could've gotten Santana in january, but he was asking for a longer term, the jays have set parametres when signing a player, they won't go longer than five years.
  5. He could've traded Janssen and/or Santos and /or Cecil, to make room for Santana's salary?
  6. Difference, in the off-season, it's harder to pry an elite pitcher away from a team through a trade, a lot easier near the trade deadline if they've decided to take a different direction with the club, ie a rebuild.
  7. Although they might be able to trade prospects to non-playoff teams near the deadline, this is always an option, only if they're competing for a wildcard.
  8. If rogers doesn't give him the ok to take on the extra salaries, then no, there's no hope and there never will be.
  9. He didn't do anything in the off-season besides upgrade the catcher position, which wasn't hard to do, considering jpa was one of the worst catchers ever. He lost De Rosa, and didn't do anything to enhance the bench, and we all know what else he didn't address.
  10. The moves are in the starting rotation, these moves won't be available for three months, this is when teams will start to throw up the white flag and clean house, by that time, it might be too late for the jays too.
  11. Santos and Janssen have trade value, this will be interesting before the trade deadline, if the jays are in last place, this might be an option.
  12. Problem is, I think they gave him a spending cap, he reached that cap with no results, the well's run dry, evidence in the non-activity in the off-season.
  13. He has that down pat, he sure knows how to sugarcoat, but it's getting old.
  14. I remember AA in an interview describing how much of an amazing arm jo jo reyes had, and how lucky they were to be getting such a power arm.
  15. Serious question, do you really think AA is a smart GM? I think he's done some real bad trades, he traded doc, the jays best all-time pitcher, and as of today, they have nothing to show for it, no return at all. He traded napoli away for francisco after four days, he traded aviles and gomes for esmil rogerscentre(hitter friendly).
  16. Problem with having the all-star, is that you rely on them to carry the team, when they get hurt, or they're in a slump, the team will go into a downward spiral.
  17. Given dickey's age, there was a reasonable expectation for a drop-off, just a matter of when, accelerated by the fact he's coming to the real tough AL east, and pitching at the rogers centre(his worst nightmare). True, same rules don't apply to knucklers when it comes to the norms of the twilight and decline in a pitchers career, but roll the dice.
  18. When it comes to knuckleballers, there's no guarantee's, no, I didn't think the numbers would be where they are now, but, at the same time, I didn't expect that he would just continue to be dominant year after year, truth is, there's a small pocket of time to take advantage of dickey's talent, and it's dwindling by the month.
  19. Yes,, Ervin's no guarantee, his numbers are off the charts so far, if AA was a good gm, he would've signed him in january.
  20. I said that he had that one cy young year, I didn't say that he had one good year. He was coming into a much tougher division, and to a hitter friendly park, so, everyone was expecting a bit of a drop-off, and last year, he wasn't that bad in the second half, but two years later, now he's almost 40, and there's no way he can repeat what he did three or four years ago in the NL, and a different park. I choose to look at today, and right now, I'm not even sure what he is, and neither is any fan, we don't know what we're getting inning to inning and pitch to pitch, this season can go downhill real fast, and I'm not the type to say I told you so.
  21. Dickey had that cy young year, but only a fool would think that he would repeat those numbers, anyone with proper baseball accumen would know the reality of coming down to earth. Fact is, nobody know's how dickey will perform year to year, start to start, pitch to pitch, not even dickey. To think that you were signing a roger clemens in his prime, or another doc, is foolish on the fan's part, or AA, or just fans drinking the kook aid. At this point, you can only pray that he's a #4, and especially in his decline, but we can all watch the career of syndergaard explode well after mr.dickey is retired.
  22. Dickey was never brought in to be a #1, he's a #3 or #4 as well as beurhle, except this year, he's been an ace until last night. AA's in denial about morrow that's for sure, this season is over and most don't even know it, this staff is terrible, writing's on the wall, they can't get past the 4th on most nights, and the shelves are bare, the kids are a year away, its' gonna be a long season, I wouldn't be surprised if jose, EE will ask for a trade next year, and melky will just walk.
  23. AA thinks the jays have 4 good starters? They've been selling the morrow dream now for 3 years, how long will they keep bs'ing the fans to avoid the real problem, they don't want to go out and spend to bring in another couple of arms and finish what they started.
