  1. This guy is always hurt. What do you guys expect him fetch in FA?
  2. Drafting for a need at any position is a pretty bad idea. Tyler Beede is losing tens of thousands of dollars every time out. Serious concerns over his makeup and command.
  3. It's funny that this is your response considering the sentence you quoted cannot be deduced into a legible sentence... Punctuation is your friend. Besides your post was a TLDR in the first place. You should have said, "I am going to make a scenario where the Jays luck out in their first pick, then draft Hoffman, and then use picks 2-10 on top 100 prospects that won't be available anyways." Concision is key my friend.
  4. This is ridiculous. Hoffman at 11 is realistic all the other picks aren't.
  5. McGuire's secondary offerings couldn't sniff Nola's.
  6. Why wouldn't Hoffman sign? He's going to get professionals to deal with his TJ and his recovery process. He loses all leverage if he goes back for his senior year and doesn't even pitch. He'll get drafted somewhere 4-15 and he'll sign. I for one, wouldn't want the Jays taking Turner. The guy is pretty low ceiling. No power, injury problems and gets beat by advanced college pitching. If the Jays could swing Hoffman and Newcomb/Nola/Finnegan/Freeland they are in great shape moving forward.
  7. If the Jays could swing a Hoffman/Newcomb first round that would be mighty impressive and loaded with potential. Very cool draft Jays fans picking at 9 & 11 with some nice options there. If Nola some how feel to 9, Necomb/Finnegan as well. A lot of great options. Basically they should have a chance to a nab a top 5 (potentially elite) talent in Hoffman and then they get a choice of the very enticing middle tier of starting pitching with Nola/Newcomb/Freeland. I personally think Finnegan gets past them with his injury concerns.
  8. We have a terribly small Japanese population. A lot of Cubs/Sox fans think it's a problem for bringing in Tanaka. Lots of Chinese here, though it may be a surprise to some, Chinese =/= Japanese.
  9. Sandoval is going to have a huge year.
  10. I've read Angels can't afford him. They have the two messes in Hamilton and Pujols and have to sign the best player in baseball for a long time.
  11. It's worth nothing that the Jays will probably go out to see Tanaka rather than Tanaka coming to Toronto. I know that Kenny Williams is out in LA and Kevin Towers was working to plan a meeting outside of Arizona.
  12. Yeah, if that's the case it's probably the Dodgers or Mariners. Yankees will definitely be involved. Both Chicago teams are said to be heavily interested. Kevin Towers says the Diamonbacks have him as the number 1 priority but I really don't see that happening.
  13. Jon Heyman of CBS Sports reports that Tanaka's camp could meet with as many as a dozen by Friday. According to Heyman, the Dodgers, Angels, Cubs, White Sox, Yankees and Diamondbacks all have meetings set. The Blue Jays have also had multiple conversations with Tanaka's camp already, he adds, but it's unclear if they have a face-to-face meeting set in Los Angeles. Heyman reports that Tanaka began meetings yesterday and could meet with five to six teams per day. I imagine at least half the teams will put forth an offer.
  14. Is there enough money for both? I don't see it happening regardless.
  15. I don't subscribe to the belief of too many LHSP is a bad thing. Chris Sale gets everybody out. Quintana gets out LH and RH equally. Danks gets out RH better than LH. So it really doesn't matter. I'm with you on Davidson/Eaton. I love the Bourjos pick up for sure. Ellis should be great for them and Matheny will probably utilize that platoon with him Wong. Peralta is whatever but he doesn't seem like a Cardinal and especially not at the price they signed him for.
  16. Erik Johnson is their #4 and they're fairly confident in him. Doesn't do anything extraordinarily well but has good control, good off-speed and is a strong competitor. He'll assume Gavin Floyd's role very well. Johnson will line up 50-100 on most if not all big prospect lists. Their 5 spot will be between Eric Surkhamp and Andre Riezno (Brazilian pitcher) as Paulino won't be ready for OD. Don't rule out Paulino though, he is exactly the type of guy who Don Cooper (WSox pitching coach) can make into a serviceable starting pitcher. Interesting you threw in Nestor Molina, probably because he's a former Jays farm hand, but he is probably the 40th man on the 40 man roster. Many out in Chicago thought he'd be released when they signed Downs/Belisario. As little as Santos has given our Jays, Molina will most likely never give that much for the White Sox.
  17. You can't be serious advocating signing Sizemore.
  18. I have seen them mentioned a lot by MLB network. For a team with no young, talented positional players coming into the offseason, infusing four new faces since July has to be nice. RF Avisail Garcia 1B Jose Abreu CF Adam Eaton 3B Matt Davidson
  19. With a lot of posters upset with the Jays lack of activity this offseason, which team's offseason do you like the most at this point? Obviously there is still a set of free agents to chose from and a couple trades still to happen but in a downtime for news, I'm interested in who's offseason you guys like so far. Who's do you hate? I like what the Nationals have done in getting Fister for way below his value. I hate what Kevin Towers has done in Arizona. Who do you guys have?
  20. The 11th pick in the 2014 draft is far more valuable than last years draft. Obviously it all matters who is picked, but on paper the odds are better for the upcoming draft.
  21. Why would Jimenez be inclined to sign in Toronto at a discount because he's Dominican?
  22. As evident by all the postseason appearances.
  23. To me, it's between the Yankees, Dodgers and the Cubs. Sources out here in Chicago say, "Theo Epstein will not be outbid." Take it FWIW but that's the quote we hear daily over here.
  24. Not that it matters because he doesn't figure to be a part of the Blue Jays 25 man roster barring a couple injuries but... Morel is a decent fielder at 3B. Can pick it up pretty nicely. That being said, he is a hitter who tried to take everything to RF and yet he doesn't have the power to hit it over a the right fielder's head. In the end, he can be a decent player if you use your DH on him and have a pitcher that can hold his own at the plate.
