Jeremy Smith may be the early favorite to become Boston's backup goalie to start the season.
Advice: He was great for Providence during his first year with the team in 2014-15. Smith does have some good AHL experience under his belt and the 26-year-old netminder may be hitting his stride at the right time for the Bruins. "Coming into camp, I think so," Smith said about the good chance he has of sticking with the big team. "But there are going to be five or six goalies in camp, so that's a lot of guys. But this is an opportunity. I think every year's an opportunity. But it's up to me. It's all performance-based." Malcolm Subban, Zane McIntyre and Jonas Gustavsson, who is on a PTO, are expected to be his main competition.
