  1. Apparently the Tigers are hiring Chris Long (former Padres analytics guy, active on Twitter) too as a consultant. Interesting.
  2. The podcast where he went through what everyone in a front office does? That was a great episode.
  3. Wow the Tigers are hiring Jay Sartori to run their analytics.
  4. You've said before that you didn't really get to interact with AA at all. Is that because he wasn't interested in what you were doing or just because of the nature of his job?
  5. Welcome back to the blog sub-forum!
  6. #neverreadthecomments Nearing 2000 clicks today... my goodness. You're a popular kid. Btw, did you get Wok to edit your article?
  7. You can get to any wordpress admin home with /wp-admin. Here is Stoeten's, for example: http://andrewstoeten.com/wp-admin Here is Breaking Blue: http://www.breakingblue.ca/wp-admin
  8. Yep. They're actually embracing the articles and using them as a platform for discussion. They have to actually be good articles, though. GD's piece was thorough and slightly contrarian.
  9. Wow Reddit is going bananas with GD's article. It's going to set the 2015 daily record for visits. Thousands of clicks and 36 comments:
  10. That's cool. I was just hoping to get a statistics-related job for next term and my second option (which I may or may not have been able to get) was with a government agency in Ottawa doing data stuff. They got 102, which is a good number but not huge. The Facebooks and Googles can get 400 applicants. It helped that their requirements weren't stringent. Some companies will include in their requirements technologies that nobody can be expected to know.
  11. Waterloo is a very co-op oriented school. Pretty much all STEM students are in co-op. I switch between work and school every four months. So there's a process where employers sign up to post positions and students apply to as many as 50 positions. Then interviews happen for a few weeks in the first half of the term (students who don't get jobs go into continuous round where interviews and postings all happen at once) and employers rank the candidates they interview. They're not required to hire anyone and positions often go unfilled, but there's an expectation that they will. I believe last winter when I applied was the first term the team got involved. There are thousands of companies involved (most of which are CS-related) so it's not really an affiliation as much as a business relationship between the company and school.
  12. No I'll be living with my family in Toronto but will definitely catch a few games with GD. GD is next but he's a few years behind so it could take a while. We need to make sure he takes CS and not some pre-law program. I'm really fortunate that they decided to look specifically at Waterloo math students to fill one of the positions. I was naturally the best candidate of that pool.
  13. Thanks lol. I wouldn't be anywhere without the Darrells and BTS. That is very clear. Thank you so much for setting me on the right path. Jacob doesn't think that Graydon is returning this summer but he's currently consulting and will probably continue to be part of the analytics process regardless. Hurl thinks he should ask Mark for a full-time job since he thinks they're interested in adding new people quickly.
  14. I interviewed a few weeks ago (all through a separate Waterloo process) and submitted an assignment, and am getting the job. They made the decision last week. It's happening, we're just discussing logistics.
  15. I'd like to write some offseason preview articles and do some fun projection stuff, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to. Kind of in limbo at the moment.
  16. Those reddit clicks lol. Good articles Nick!
  17. The 2015 FRIAS review article is scheduled for just after 7 tomorrow morning: http://www.breakingblue.ca/?p=3290 Pretty encouraging. I should have 2016 FRIAS numbers (perhaps with some methodology tweaks) up soon on SaberResource.
  18. I don't think he made it back in after being banned/deleted. He should be in here, yes. I don't have the mod ability; we have to get Admin to do it.
  19. Then please PM Admin asking for him/it to be added to this sub-forum.
  20. Yay the donut hole. Great work Nick. Maybe I'll write something about a Royals player for Wednesday.
  21. Does CC have access to this sub-forum right now? I'm not sure.
  22. John Havok, what do you think about using player images instead of plaque images for the awards featured photos? The current two don't look great beside each other on the home page. Also did you notice that traffic bumped yesterday for your Estrada piece? Someone linked to it on hfboards, which drew some clicks.
  23. Yeah getting any attention is definitely a beneficial thing. I suppose the Fangraphs guys are just used to community posts being extended comment-type stuff from fans.
  24. The Fangraphs guys bring up that article often and never mention who wrote it. It's kinda weird; as NJH says, Fangraphs Community stuff gets treated like anonymous content.
  25. Dave Cameron just tweeted a link to the Dickey Effect. The Fangraphs article version though lol
