After a whirlwind ride Sunday night for the first three rounds of the MLB Draft, Day 2 started off with a ton of talent still on the board and dreams ready to be made for those select few that hear their names called. The Toronto Blue Jays made two picks on Day 1: Jojo Parker and Jake Cook. A shortstop and centerfielder, furthering the draft philosophy of new Blue Jays Director of Amateur Scouting Marc Tramuta. He loves large bodied pitchers that fill up the strike zone and up-the-middle, athletic position players. Day 2 of the draft encompassed Rounds 4-20 and was fast-paced, pure chaos at times, so let's take a look at all of the players the Toronto Blue Jays drafted and what their future might hold. Micah Bucknam, 110th Overall Pick, P, 21, Dallas Baptist Michah Bucknam played two seasons in college for Louisiana State University and then one at Dallas Baptist, after transferring following his sophomore season. This was in fact the second time the Toronto Blue Jays selected him, the first being back in 2022, as a 16th-round pick. Originally born in Nelson, New Zealand, he played high school baseball in British Columbia and is an “adopted Canadian.” The Blue Jays really loved his makeup, enough so they drafted him twice. In his lone season at Dallas Baptist, he pitched 62.1 innings, striking out 80 (29.4%), walking 25 (9.2%), and carried a 4.62 ERA. MLB Pipeline is high on his secondary pitches, but lower on his fastball, giving the fastball a 50-grade, as it sits 92-96 mph with not the best shape or bat-missing ability. His slider gets a big grade of 65, a mid-to-high 80s pitch that can leak into the 90s. His curveball did not get as big of a grade, 60, but is almost as effective. They point out that better command of his fastball and changeup are the keys to him sticking as a starting pitcher. Tim Piasentin, 143 Overall Pick, 3B, 18, Foothills Composite (AB) Tim Piasentin is another Canadian product and the Toronto Blue Jays started off Day 2 with a theme: draft home grown players. He played his high school ball in Alberta and is someone with big raw power from the left side, as well as an ability to hit velocity. A move to 1B could be in his future; he has the arm to stick at third base, but his fielding is less than desirable right now. His future is in his bat, which is currently power over hit. Scouts have been mixed on his hit tool, as the swing and miss issues are present, but it is undetermined as to how prevalent they will be. Eric Snow, 172nd Overall Pick, SS, 21, Auburn Eric Snow played three seasons in college, two at South Florida and his junior year at the University of Auburn. In his junior season he played 57 games, had a slash line of .307/.403/.493, hit eight home runs, and 14 doubles. His plate discipline was really good with a 9.9% walk rate and a 10.3% strikeout rate. He made a lot of contact and showed a little pop in his bat. At 5-foot-8 and only 188 pounds he does not have much more to build out on his frame and will be more contact over power in his career. He played a utility infielder role for Auburn in 2025 and that may in fact be his future outlook at the big league level. Baseball America has him with fringe arm strength, which may limit him to second base, but expect him to play all over early in his professional career. Dylan Watts, 202nd Overall Pick, P, 20, Auburn Dylan Watts is coming to the Toronto Blue Jays organization from Auburn as well. He played in two seasons there and pitched almost exclusively out of the bullpen, 32 games with five starts. His college production is downright ugly, over a seven ERA in both years and strikeout rates south of 23%. It wasn't all negative for him, as he walked very few batters, around 4% and 8% for both seasons. Watts is a relief pitcher through and through; expect him to work on improving his pitches at the lower levels for a while. He is a project and almost assuredly a pick to save money to spend on other picks if he were to sign. Danny Thompson Jr., 232nd Overall Pick, P, 22, UNC Greensboro Danny Thompson Jr. is another true relief pitcher. He played five years in college, three at North Carolina Wesleyan and two at UNC Greensboro. He did average almost three innings an appearance in 2025, so he could conceivably be stretched out as a starter, but the bullpen is undoubtedly in his future. He has a knack for strikeouts, ending this season with a 33% strikeout rate. He did walk batters more than you'd like, sitting at a 9% walk rate. He can be a little wild at times, as seen with his six hit by pitches and four wild pitches. This is another cost-saving pick to help with signing other draft selections. He will be another project and needs to work hard in the lower minors to improve upon his skillset. Karson Ligon, 262nd Overall Pick, P, 22, Mississipi State Karson Ligon is another college draft pick, having played two seasons at the University of Miami and then two at Mississippi State. He was a starter for three of the four years in college ball and in 2025 started all 15 games he appeared in. Reports have come out that he has touched 100 mph with his fastball, but sits in the upper 90s. He features a changeup that is borderline plus and with refinement will be a huge weapon for him opposite the big fastball. His arsenal led to a 27.9% strikeout rate in the SEC this season and a respectable 11.1% walk rate. Ligon is an older prospect and could move quickly through the minor leagues if he can hit the ground running and not be wild with his command. Regardless of his initial placement, the upper minors is where he will need to be to amply test himself and hopefully succeed well enough to help the big league club within a couple of seasons. Austin Smith, 292nd Overall Pick, OF, 22, San Diego Austin Smith continued the Toronto Blue Jays theme of drafting heavily from the college ranks. In 2025, he slashed .353/.412/.528 at the University of San Diego. Despite his high contact skills, he only hit six home runs, but had 18 doubles. He is mostly a gap-to-gap doubles hitter, unless the Blue Jays can get him to tap into more of his raw power. Expect Smith to be a longer developmental project unless his contact abilities shine through in the lower minor leagues at the start of his career. Jared Spencer, 322nd Overall Pick, P, 22, Texas Our Jamie Cameron's draft analysis has Jared Spencer looking like a great pick for the Toronto Blue Jays. A left handed pitcher out of the University of Texas, he can get the fastball up to the upper 90s, and has a nice looking changeup. Cameron had this to say about Spencer prior to the draft: “Spencer is an Indiana State transfer who is a 2025 senior. Although he’ll be 22 on draft day, he caught plenty of attention this season with some tweaks to his arsenal and his stuff taking a step forward for the Longhorns. It’s a good frame for a starter although there’s a lot of effort in the delivery for me. His fastball will sit in the mid-90s, although he’s run it up to 97-98 mph in shorter stints or when he’s revved up. There’s a firm, upper 80s bullet slider that plenty of teams will value, in addition to a changeup he added this spring. He finished his 2025 season with 52.1 IP, a 3.89 FIP, a 29.3 K%, and a 10.2 BB%. Spencer was dealt a major blow, missing the culmination of the 2025 season after shoulder surgery in late April.” Spencer should be on a similar path as Austin Smith, he can be a fast mover if he hits the ground running, or have to grind it out if he doesn't. Blaine Bullard, 322nd Overall Pick, OF, 18, Klein Cain High School The Toronto Blue Jays dipped back into the high school ranks with Blaine Bullard. He has good speed and a great frame to work on filling it out and adding power. Jamie Cameron wrote: “Bullard is a prep outfielder out of Houston, currently committed to Texas A&M. He'll be on the older side of the prep class on draft day and is a prospect with a fairly wide range of rankings entering the end of the draft cycle. The switch hitting outfielder is a great athlete with good projection at 6'2, 190. There's plenty of quickness and twitch in his frame and swing. Offensively, it's a gap-to-gap approach with strong bat-to-ball skills and an ability to use the entire field to his advantage. There's some strong supplementary tools, too. Bullard has plus speed, making him a threat on the base paths in addition to helping him cover plenty of ground in the outfield. While he might be a tough sign given his commitment, there's 4 tools here that profile as average or better.” If Toronto can pry Bullard away from Texas it will be a huge boost to the farm system, as his upside is pretty rosy at such a young age. Trace Baker, 382nd Overall Pick, P, 21, UNC Wilmington Trace Baker played two seasons at UNC Wilmington, where he was predominantly a relief pitcher. 39 of his 41 appearances came out of the bullpen. In 2025, he rocked a 2.24 ERA, a 25% strikeout rate, and a 7% walk rate. Last year, his arsenal consisted of three pitches, a fastball in the mid 90s, a slider in the low 80s, and a mid 80s changeup. Expect Baker to stick as a relief pitcher unless the Blue Jays have some crazy idea of converting him to a starter. Noah Palmese, 412th Overall Pick, P, 21, Webber International University Noah Palmese is an off-the-radar pick, but reported pitch metrics on him look very promising. As of last year, he had a low-to-mid 90s fastball with 20 inches of iVB, a sinker in the low 90s, along with a slider and a splitter in the 80s. He might be a longer term project, but don't be shocked if the Blue Jays unlock some serious skills in his arm. Jake Casey, 442nd Overall Pick, OF, 22, Kent State Jake Casey is yet another four year college player and despite him playing against lower competition, he has some good looking tools. He showed above average pop in the bat, hitting 17 home runs in 2025. He slashed a robust .356/.500/.736 and had an OPS of 1.236. He even stole 20 bases during his last season in college, making him a potential all-around threat and complete player. Casey will have to show that his talents play up against tougher competition, so expect him to start off in the lowest level of the minor leagues and then he will dictate his future with how well or not as well he does against more formidable opponents. Jaxson West, 472nd Overall Pick, C, 21, Florida State Jaxson West played three seasons at Florida State and didn't really show any high-end tools. If he does sign, expect him to not be much more than organizational catching depth. The Blue Jays will really have to work to improve his power (2 home runs in 2025), speed (3 stolen bases in 2025), and bat skills (.236/.370/.311 in 2025). Jordan Rich, 502nd Overall Pick, OF, 18, American Heritage HS (FL) Jordan Rich was a dual threat in high school, launching seven home runs and swiping 38 bags his senior year. That type of power and speed combination has been largely lacking from a Toronto Blue Jays system, and more importantly from their outfield prospects. Will Cresswell, 532nd Overall Pick, C, 21, Washington State Will Cresswell is a four year college player out of Washington State University. There he was hampered by bad batting averages and low on-base rates until this season, when he really got locked in. He hit .329/.404/.523, with five home runs. It is another pick in this draft that kind of draws some double takes, but if the improvements stick, he could make for a very solid minor league catcher who will work to move up one level at a time in the minor leagues. Luke Kovach, 562nd Overall Pick, P, 22, Cal Poly (CA) With their next to last selection in the draft, the Toronto Blue Jays went with Luke Kovach, a pitcher who played at Cal Poly. He is a skinny lefty on the mound who doesn't have a big fastball. He struck out 17 hitters in 8.1 innings in 2025 though, so there is some strikeout potential, especially if the fastball can improve. Ty Peeples, 592nd Overall Pick, OF, 18, Franklin County HS (GA) To cap off the draft, the Toronto Blue Jays ended up selecting their fifth player out of high school. Ty Peeples has a good projectable frame and some noteworthy in-game power already. Perfect Game has him listed with a 94th percentile exit velocity for the 2025 class. He has some serious pop in his bat and a good approach for his age. He would be a great signing, but a commitment to play for the University of Georgia may make it difficult to get him to pro ball. The 2025 MLB Draft kicked off on Sunday night, and the curveballs were being slung around often. All of the mock drafts and speculation were over; it was finally time to etch names into stone and for the players of the future to find out what fate awaited them. The Toronto Blue Jays began the night with only two picks on Sunday (Rounds 1-3), 8 and 81. They lost their second-round pick because of their offseason signing of Anthony Santander. The Athletic had a great piece that spoke about new Blue Jays Director of Amateur Scouting Marc Tramuta's draft philosophy and tendencies in relation to the 2025 draft. The overarching theme was up the middle, athletic position players and big, imposing pitchers that fill up the strike zone. Let's break down the picks and see who the Blue Jays selected and what they have to offer their farm system and, hopefully, one day, the major league team. JoJo Parker, 8th Overall Pick, SS, 18, Purvis HS (MS), 6’2”, 200 lbs, L/R JoJo Parker comes to the draft out of Purvis High School in Mississippi. He had a dominant season with the bat and on the mound. He provided plenty of power (13 home runs) and speed on the basepaths (30 stolen bases), showing his potential dual-threat abilities. His ability to hit is also very good, with a batting average of .489 on the year. On the mound, he pitched 55.2 innings and struck out 89 hitters, but his future is in the batter's box and not toeing the rubber. MLB Pipeline has given Parker a hit grade of 60, a power grade of 55, a run grade of 50, a 55 grade on his arm, and a 50 fielding grade. The power should continue to improve as he continues to fill out and add more muscle. He has a real chance to develop into a 20-30 home run hitter, while hitting for a solid average. It sounds like he might have a move to third base in his future, but the Toronto Blue Jays will give him every opportunity to stick at shortstop. Parker will enter the Blue Jays organization with massive upside and expectations for him. He will need to maintain his plate discipline from high school if he is going to be able to reach those lofty heights. Some scouts think he will end up as a two-hole hitter with above-average to potentially plus power. Jake Cook, 81st Overall Pick, OF, 22, Southern Mississippi, 6’3”, 185 lbs, L/L Jake Cook is the second draft pick of the night for the Toronto Blue Jays. He comes to the Blue Jays organization out of college at the University of Southern Mississippi. His calling card is his speed, double-plus by some reports and possibly the fastest player in the draft. Despite his speed, however, he did not utilize that talent on the basepaths at Southern Mississippi, with only six stolen bases in 64 career games. What he did well was his plate discipline and, more specifically, making contact. He had a 6.7% strikeout rate in his final season, adding to it a 10.9% walk rate. He slashed .350/.436/.905, while adding three home runs, three triples, and 13 doubles. MLB Pipeline gives Cook only a 30 grade for power, a 55 grade for hit tool, and an 80 grade for speed. He has a slap-hitter's approach and puts the ball on the ground a lot. He stands 6-foot-3, but only 185 pounds, giving him a lot of room to add muscle and fill out. At 22 years old, it remains to be seen how much he will be able to add. His speed should give him a great opportunity to stick at center field. Cook will need to work a lot on his base-stealing acumen. It's his best tool and the one that will ultimately decide how far he will be able to get in his career. His speed and defense will give him a solid floor as a fourth outfielder, while his hit tool will be the deciding factor as to what his ceiling will be. An MLB regular center fielder, stealing 50 or more bags, and hitting .250 would be great, but there is a ton of development needed to reach those lofty aspirations. Michael Stefanic was hit by a pitch, Jonatan Clase moved him to third with a double, and Alan Roden drove him in with a sacrifice fly to give Buffalo the early lead. In the bottom of the inning, the RailRiders tied the game with a sacrifice fly of their own. In the third, Buffalo put up a four spot, when Roden had an RBI groundout, Buddy Kennedy followed with an RBI fielder's choice, and then Yohendrick Pinango blasted a two-run home run. The RailRiders again responded immediately with two runs on an RBI double and RBI single. In the fourth inning, two more runs were added for the RailRiders via RBI singles. The Bisons took the lead in the seventh on Riley Tirotta's RBI groundout. Unfortunately, the RailRiders responded quickly once more, this time with six runs on two more RBI singles and two errors from the Bisons. Tirotta added a late RBI double for Buffalo, but they would go on to lose big, 11-7. Michael Stefanic- 3-4, 2 R, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K Amir Garrett- 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K Buffalo (1), Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (10) - 7/11 Box Score The Friday contest between the two teams was a slugfest, for just the RailRiders. They scored often against the Buffalo starting pitcher Adam Kloffenstein. In the third inning, it was a three-run home run from T.J. Rumfield that did the damage. Then in the fourth, an error resulted in a run, then an RBI single, and the inning was capped off with a Spencer Jones three-run blast. In the sixth, two more RBI singles would put the RailRiders up 10 runs. The lone run on the day for Buffalo came from a Yohendrick Pinango sacrifice fly in the seventh. Buffalo only managed to have three hits in the game, while giving up 13 to the RailRiders on their way to losing this one 10-1. Rainer Nunez- 2-3, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K Mason Fluharty- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (0), Somerset (1) - 7/10 Box Score Thursday's game between New Hampshire and Somerset was a breakout game for Fisher Cats starting pitcher Kendry Rojas. In just his second start at Double-A, Rojas made one of the statements of the year via his performance on the field. A statement saying “Don't forget about me!” He struck out two batters in the bottom of the first inning and one each in the second and third. From there, it was strikeout after strikeout for Rojas, six in a row to be precise. He wrapped up his day, throwing five innings, giving up only two hits, zero walks, and striking out an eye-popping 10 batters. The New Hampshire bats couldn't take advantage of the position Rojas put them in though, only managing one hit of their own in that span. Nate Garkow came into the game for Rojas and pitched just as well, keeping the game scoreless through seven innings. However, Somerset would break the tie in the bottom of the eighth inning when George Lombard Jr. smacked an RBI single to center field. New Hampshire got two men on in the ninth, but their rally fell short, as Alex De Jesus flew out to right to end the game, the Fisher Cats fell 1-0 in another pitcher's duel. Jackson Hornung: 1-3, 1 BB, 2 K, 1 2B Kendry Rojas: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 10 K New Hampshire (3), Somerset (5) 7/11 Box Score Friday night's game against Somerset started off very poorly for New Hampshire. It was not just one strikeout in the first inning, or two, not even three, but four strikeouts. Charles McAdoo reached first base on a dropped third strike and throwing error by Somerset's catcher, allowing for the rare feat. In the bottom of the second inning, Juaron Watts-Brown got into a self-inflicted jam, losing the strike zone and walking the first three batters of the inning. After getting two outs without allowing a run to score, he lost the plate again and walked Max Burt, allowing the first run of the game to score. Pat Gallagher came in for Watts-Brown and walked the first batter he faced, before striking out Rafael Flores to get out of the inning with New Hampshire down 2-0. In the top of the fourth, the Fisher Cats evened up the game on the backs of a Robert Brooks RBI double and an Alex De Jesus RBI single. Brendan Jones got the lead back for Somerset with an RBI single of his own in the bottom half of the inning. Two solo home runs from Somerset's Dylan Jasso and Cam Edwn would extend the lead to three, 5-2. Gabriel Martinez cut into the deficit in the top of the eighth with an RBI single, but New Hampshire couldn't get any more runs and fell 5-3. Gabriel Martinez: 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB Pat Gallagher: 2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (6), Hillsboro (1) - 7/10 Box Score Vancouver put together a complete game against the Hops, as the pitching kept the Hops to only one run, as Fernando Perez pitched five strong scoreless innings. Daniel Eagen outdueled Perez to a tune of six no-hit innings with six strikeouts, but once Victor Morales came in for him, the Canadians struck, with Eddie Micheletti Jr. driving in Cutter Coffey on a sac fly. Cutter Coffey was the RBI man in the next inning, knocking in Victor Arias with a single, and Irv Carter pitched three scoreless innings himself right after Perez was taken out. The Hops bullpen continued to struggle, with them walking the bases loaded and then walking two more batters to make it 4-0 Canadians. Cutter Coffey then hit double number 19 on the season to score two more runs, and Javen Coleman allowed one run to score before finishing off the game. Cutter Coffey - 3-5, 1 R, 3 RBI, 2 2B Since May, Coffey has hit .289, with 15 doubles and three home runs for a 117 wRC+, walking 11.4% of the time and striking out 23.7% of the time. Fernando Perez - 5 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K Perez continues his excellent summer, dropping his season ERA to 3.73 now. The Nicaraguan refuses to walk anybody and by being in the zone so often is able to generate some strikeouts. Vancouver (4), Hillsboro (3) - 7/11 Box Score Khal Stephen took the bump again and dominated, showcasing that he’s way too good for High-A. The 22-year old righty allowed the first run to score after a ground-rule double into another double, but then allowed no other runs in the rest of his six innings pitched. Sean Keys turned that lead into a tie game with a swing of the bat, going opposite field the half-inning after, and then with two runners on Carter Cunningham hit himself a three-run homer in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1 for the Canadians. Johan Simon made his Canadians debut and earned a three-inning save, allowing two runs (one unearned), while striking out two, and walking one. Sean Keys - 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR Keys joined the double-digit homer club for the Canadians, hitting a solo shot to tie the game up. Khal Stephen- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (6), Palm Beach (9) - 7/10 Box Score Colby Holcombe had one of his worst starts as a professional, allowing five runs in the first inning and putting the D-Jays down early. Eliander Alcalde was also uncharacteristicly run-prone, as he allowed three more runs in two innings of work as the Jays struggled to get anyone out. After eight unanswered runs from the Cardinals, the Jays began to chip at the lead, with JR Freethy getting an RBI-single in the top of the fifth. Sammy Hernandez hit a bomb to make it an eight run lead again, but the Jays scored three runs in the top of the sixth, and Alexis Hernandez hit his fourth homer of the year to make it 6-9 for Palm Beach, but the D-Jays could not complete the comeback. JR Freethy - 4-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB Freethy got on base all five times he stepped up to the plate and has picked up where he left off before hitting the injured list near the start of the season. Jack Esheleman - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Dunedin (5), Palm Beach (3) - 7/11 - F/6 Box Score It was a noon game for the D-Jays, and Holden Wilkerson made his Low-A debut. The Jays got up early on Leonel Sequera, scoring three runs in the second on a pair of singles, but the Cardinals rallied back a bit with two runs in the bottom of the third. Edward Duran made the lead a bit bigger with a single in the fifth, and that same inning Tucker Toman had an RBI-groundout to make it 5-2. The Cardinals scored one more run on Bennett Flynn before the game was called due to the rain. Edward Duran - 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI Holden Wilkerson - 4.2 IP, 5 H, 2 R (1 ER), 2 BB, 4 K Wilkerson made his Low-A debut after a strong start in the FCL. FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (3), F-PHI (1) - 7/10 - Game 1 Box Score This matchup between the Blue Jays and Phillies squads kicked off in the second inning, continuing a suspended game from last week. Dariel Ramon singled in the third inning and was driven in for the first run of the game by a David Beckles single. In the fifth, a Jose Familia single would tie the game at one for the Phillies team. In the bottom of the sixth, Beckles singled, Yorman Licourt singled, and then Enmanuel Bonilla drove in a run with a single as well. With the one run lead, Aldo Gaxiola drove a double to left field, scoring Beckles who had singled again earlier in the eighth inning. The Blue Jays team would win this one 3-1. David Beckles- 3-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K, Brandon Barriera- 2 IP, 0 BB, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K F-BLU (1), F-PHI (2) - F/7 - 7/10 - Game 2 Box Score In the second game of the day versus the Phillies team, the Blue Jays would take the early deficit when they surrendered an RBI double to Cesar Mujica in the second inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Portland's Brooks Brannon got them on the scoreboard with a solo shot to center. They added to their lead in the third with an RBI groundout. In the bottom half of the inning, Charles McAdoo continued to show improvements, launching his seventh home run of the season (and his third in the last seven games). It was a two-run shot, scoring Jace Bohrofen who had reached via a walk. After giving up a sacrifice fly in the top of the fourth, New Hampshire got one of their own from Ryan McCarty to tie it back up in the bottom half of the inning. Things stood all square until the bottom of the seventh, when Yoshida again had an RBI single to give the lead to Portland. Things changed in the bottom of the third inning, as Izzi walked three batters to load the bases, and then Arjun Nimmala started off the scoring with a two-run single. Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit one of his own to make it a three-run inning for the Canadians. McElvain immediately gave up two runs in the fourth, as he gave up a hit to Josh Caron, and Tai Peete homered off McElvain. He got one more out before getting replaced by Kai Peterson. Victor Arias got those two runs back in the inning after, with a two-run homer himself after Bryce Arnold hit a single. An error from Nick Goodwin into a wild pitch from Peterson allowed a run to score after Caron hit a single, which dropped the lead to two. After Aaron Munson pitched three scoreless innings, the Canadians turned to Chay Yeager in the ninth inning, but he allowed a run on two hits, and then a throwing error by Cutter Coffey allowed the runner on second to score. Yeager however didn’t allow a runner to score in the 10th inning, and Ben Hernandez walked Micheletti and hit Aaron Parker to load the bases. Jay Harry was the hero and singled to walk it off! Arias has always had strong exit velocities, but if he begins to lift the ball, he can turn that into extra-base hits. Vancouver (9), Everett (2) - 7/4 Box Score After a tight one, Vancouver dominated against the AquaSox in this game. Fernando Perez took the bump and uncharacteristically walked four batters but still pitched 4.2 innings of two-run ball, allowing a homer to Charlie Pagliarini, which scored two runs. Micheletti tied the game up with a homer of his own the next inning. In the top of the fifth, the Canadians kept the runs coming. After Harry singled, Goodwin hit a double, and then Hayden Gilliland hit his second double of the season to score Harry and Goodwin. Perez could not finish the bottom of the fifth after loading the bases, and Edinson Batista replaced him and struck out Colt Emerson to end the inning. Gilliland continued an excellent game with his first professional homer in the seventh, and the hits kept coming. Arias hit a single, then Sean Keys hit one as well, and a run scored after a fielding error by Curtis Washington Jr. Coffey scored Keys on a double, and then Micheletti had his second extra-base hit of the night with a double to score Coffey. He’s now tied for the organization lead in homers. Fernando Perez - 4.2 IP, 1 H, 2 ER, 4 BB, 5 K Vancouver (3), Everett (0) - 7/5 Box Score This was a duel between two former teammates, as Jays second-rounder Khal Stephen faced off against the ace of Mississippi State and first-round pick for the Mariners Jurrangelo Cijntje. The switch-pitcher struggled early against the Canadians, as Nimmala hit an RBI double in the first inning after Keys was hit by a pitch. Cijntje then gave up another two runs in the third inning, with Arias hitting a single, and then Coffey hit his sixth homer of the season to give the Canadians a three-run lead. Cjintje was chased in the fifth inning after he walked Coffey, and Nimmala and Micheletti loaded the bases with singles of their own, but the Canadians could not score against Allan Saathoff. The bullpens for both teams kept the game scoreless after that, as Javen Coleman and Yondrei Rojas combined to give up one hit for the Canadians in three scoreless innings, which led to a Canadians victory to end the series. Cutter Coffey - 1-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR Khal Stephen - 6 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Stephen once again showcased his dominance, showing that he’s been the better pitcher so far this season than his former teammate and ace of the Mississippi State Bulldogs. He lowered his High-A ERA to 1.49 and continued to show excellent command. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (), Lakeland () - 7/3 PPD Dunedin (0), Lakeland (4) - 7/4 Box Score The Dunedin Blue Jays were shut out for the second game in a row as they only mustered two hits on the night, and walked three times. Colby Holcombe started for the D-Jays but gave up seven hits and two walks which resulted in three runs scored, with Ricardo Hurtado hitting an RBI double in the second and Garrett Pennington and Cristian Santana both getting RBI singles in the third. The other pitchers were good for the D-Jays, as Amir Garrett had a strong second rehab appearance, striking out two batters in 1.1 innings of work, and Daniel Guerra allowed only one unearned run and struck out five in three innings. BJR got that run back when Coronado scored on a wild pitch in the bottom half of the inning. Guzman would again cut the lead to two with an RBI single in the top of the fifth. In the seventh, BJB was down two and needed to put something together for the comeback. They had two batters get hit by pitches, and then Polanco walked to load the bases with only one out. Three singles, a double, and a triple got things started on the scoreboard for the IronPigs. Up 4-0, they weren't done though, as they put up another four spot in the top of the third inning on five singles, a hit-by-pitch, and a walk. The trouble for the Bisons didn't end there, unfortunately, Lehigh Valley again added three more runs in the top of the fourth inning. Will Robertson homered in the bottom of the fourth and Will Wagner blasted a home run of his own in the fifth, both solo shots. In the sixth, the IronPigs added a run on a sacrifice fly. Buffalo would add four to cut the deficit in their half of the sixth on three bases-loaded walks and an RBI single from Michael Stefanic. Andrew Painter, the Phillies top prospect, was on the mound and he did what he normally does. He made easy work of the Bisons for much of the game. He went 4.2 innings, gave up five hits, and just two runs. Conversely, CJ Van Eyk was the Buffalo starting pitcher and he threw the same 4.2 innings, but he surrendered seven hits, two walks, and seven earned runs. In a 7-1 game, Joey Loperfido singled in a run during the bottom of the fifth for the Bisons. Justin Crawford added the run back for Lehigh Valley on a sacrifice fly. McCade Brown would toe the rubber for the Yard Goats and he has been a top tier strikeout artist on the season. New Hampshire's newest bat, Jackson Hornung, ended his first at-bat of the game in the first inning by squaring up a hanging slider and crushing it over the left field fence for a solo home run. Benny Montgomery tied things up in the bottom half with an RBI single back to New Hampshire's pitcher, Grant Rogers. A sacrifice fly from Bryant Betancourt in the bottom of the third inning gave Hartford the lead. Brown held the Fisher Cats in check for the rest of his day, going five strong innings. In the sixth, New Hampshire had something going with Eddinson Paulino ending up at third base following a double and advancing on an error. Ryan McCarty got a first inning double, but was stranded there when Peyton Williams grounded out to third base to end the threat. A walk, single, and a hit-by-pitch loaded up the bases and another hit-by-pitch brought in the first run of the game for Hartford. New Hampshire had a good rally going in the sixth, led by Jackson Hornung's and McCarty's singles. Alexis Hernandez had a good game with two hits, including the first run for the Jays. Jay Schueler earned a save despite allowing allowed a run, and the Jays ended up pulling it out. Rojas was sitting 95-96 with his fastball and touched 97. The lefty should be making his way up to New Hampshire after showing dominant stuff in his rehab outings. It looks like he made another velocity jump this season after starting off on the IL with a mid-section injury. The Red Sox tied it up in the bottom of the second on a Seby Zavala double. They then took the lead one inning later, when Blaze Jordan hit a rocket single to center field. Things went quiet for a few innings until an RBI single from the Red Sox scored two more and put their lead at three. In the bottom of the seventh, the Red Sox continued the onslaught, as they would score two runs on a Jordan triple and finish off the scoring with a sacrifice fly. It was a monumental failure for New Hampshire, a truly terrible day. Lagrange only went 5 1/3 innings, but it was one of, if not the best, pitching performances in the minor leagues this season. The Fisher Cats only got three hits, two walks, and one run against him. Twelve of the 16 outs he recorded came via the strikeout. He stuck out all nine batters in the lineup once and then Dasan Brown, Devonte Brown, and Eddinson Paulino a second time. The only run New Hampshire would get was on a Ryan McCarty single, scoring Charles McAdoo in the sixth. On the flip side, Grant Rogers took the mound and was very good himself. He went six innings, only allowing four hits and a walk. Unfortunately for New Hampshire, the error bug came back out for the Fisher Cats and Rogers gave up three runs (two of which were unearned). The highlight of the scoring for Somerset against Rogers was a solo home run by high rising prospect George Lombard Jr. Somerset added two runs in the eighth on a home run from Rafael Flores and an RBI double from Cole Gabrielson. The Fisher Cats got on the scoreboard quickly in the bottom of the first inning, Gabriel Martinez singled home Cade Doughty and Charles McAdoo, who had walked and doubled respectively. They gave one back to Somerset in the next half inning from Tyler Hardman's single. The big power bat from Somerset, Spencer Jones, tied the game up on a blast in the top of the third. In the top of the fourth, Somerset scored four on three straight doubles and then Spencer Jones’ single. All four were unearned runs, after Jay Harry kept the inning going with an error. New Hampshire cut into the lead with three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. McAdoo singled home Harry and Doughty, aided by a Spencer Jones error in left field. Jace Bohrofen then doubled, scoring McAdoo and bringing New Hampshire to within one run of Somerset. A passed ball in the sixth extended Somerset's lead by one. They went up early with a Je’Von Ward double to score Cutter Coffey and Arjun Nimmala in the first, and then Aaron Parker hit a two-run bomb to make it 4-0 for the Canadians. Chris McElvain wasn’t sharp as he gave up five runs in two and a third innings pitched to give Emeralds the lead. Pat Gallagher came in to replace him, and pitched well, not allowing a single run in three and a thirds innings. Carter Cunningham came up in the sixth with Eddie Micheletti Jr. on base and took the lead back with a two-run homer, and then in the eighth inning the Canadians scored three more runs. The game remained tied until the bottom of the second inning, as JJ Sanchez lost his command along with some really shaky defense behind him which resulted in a bunt scoring in a run for the Emeralds to take the lead, as well as a few stolen bases. Jonah Cox came up with two outs and hit an inside the park homer to make it 4-1 for the Emeralds, and the Canadians offense couldn’t muster up anything else. Arjun Nimmala had a two-hit night and Sean Keys had his 14th double of the season, but other than those two and Goodwin, the offense was very quiet. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (7), Clearwater (2) - 6/19 Box Score The D-Jays earned a strong victory against the Threshers off the backs of strong performances from Peyton Powell and Austin Cates. Bryce Arnold knocked in the first run in the third inning to score Kendry Chirinos, and Peyton Powell hit his first pro homer in the top of the next inning. In the sixth inning, Tucker Toman continued his hot month with another RBI single. Speedy Lizandro Rodriguez stole home for the fourth run of the game, and then Powell knocked in two more runs with his third hit of the game to make it 6-0. Sam Shaw joined in on the fun, scoring Powell with an RBI single to make it seven unanswered for the Jays. Gilberto Batista was solid in relief after Cates, but allowed two runs to score in the bottom of the ninth, which forced Nate LaRue in, who got the last out to end the game. Peyton Powell - 3-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR Powell had his best game of his short career, with his first professional homer and his first three-hit game. The 24-year old is old for the level but has been a very productive hitter in the first half of the season. Austin Cates - 5 IP, 6 H, 0 ER, 7 K After the promotion of Trey Yesavage, Khal Stephen and Gage Stanifer, Austin Cates has stepped up and anchored the starting rotation for the D-Jays. Since May 11th, Cates has only allowed one earned run or less for a 1.30 ERA. Dunedin (0), Clearwater (1) - 6/20 Box Score The Blue Jays and the Threshers had a classic pitching duel, as Landen Maroudis got his second start in Dunedin this season, and pitched four scoreless innings. Clearwater starter Ryan Degges also pitched a strong game, with the Jays only threatening with a runner on second and third with two outs in the top of the second inning, but Edward Duran ended up lining out. Degges went seven scoreless innings himself, and on the Jays end, Elander Alcalde lowered his ERA to 1.54 with two no-hit innings. Johan Simon came in, and he gave up the winning run in the seventh inning on a balk, as Kevin Warunek for the Threshers got the save with two scoreless innings. Bryce Arnold - 2-3, 1 BB Landen Maroudis - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Maroudis still has depressed velocity, sitting just 90-92 on the fastball as he’s still not fully recovered from his surgery, but he mixed his pitches really well and suppressed hard contact. If his velocity returns to where it was pre-elbow surgery, he’ll be back on the breakout path. FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (5), F-TIG (11) - 6/19 Box Score Brandon Barriera got the start for the Blue Jays squad and it went about as poorly or worse than his last rehab start. He walked the first batter, hit the second batter, and finally got an out by striking out the third hitter of the game. Unfortunately, it went more sideways from there. Two wild pitches later and a run would score, giving the Tigers team the lead to start this one. Barriera would then give up an RBI single to center field, get a fly out, and then give up another base runner on a single again. After he was pulled, the Tigers team drove in two runs immediately on a two-run RBI double after another wild pitch. A walk and another RBI single would put the Tigers up five before the Blue Jays could hit. In the bottom of the first, Andres Arias would drive in two runs with a single and Drew Jemison would add a run on a groundout to bring the deficit to two for the Blue Jays. They would score on an RBI double from Alex De Jesus in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers would run away with the game from there, as they added two home runs, one being an inside-the-park homer. The Blue Jays fell in this one 11-5. In the third, the Yankees got on the board with an RBI double and tied the game with a sacrifice fly. The Yankees took the lead in the sixth from an Ediel Rivera sacrifice fly. Alex De Jesus pushed across a run for the Blue Jays on a ground out, then a wild pitch to go with a throwing error in the eighth allowed the Blue Jays to score the winning run. They won this one 4-3. In the bottom of the fifth, BJB's lead grew by one from a blast by Flores, his first home run of the season. Parker Messick pitched four great innings for Columbus, holding Buffalo to just three hits, two walks, and no runs. On the other hand, Adam Kloffenstein and Nick Sandlin were lit up by Columbus’ offense. Columbus would hit two home runs in the first; the second one was a 457-foot bomb by Jhonkensy Noel. The homers didn't stop there, as they would hit two more in the sixth off of Sandlin; again, Noel was at it, blasting a 419-foot home run this time. Joey Loperfido would drive in the lone Buffalo run in the seventh on a double, as they would lose this one 7-1. Michael Stefanic- 2-4, 1 R, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 2 2B Paxton Schultz- 1.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Buffalo (6), Columbus (5) - 6/13 Box Score In the Friday night contest between Buffalo and Columbus, all eyes were on Max Scherzer making a rehab start. He started the game well, needing only nine pitches to get through the first inning and only surrendering a double. In the second inning, he started off by giving up a home run to C.J. Kayfus on a fastball over the middle of the plate. He finished the inning strong though, striking out the last two batters of the inning and using all of his pitches. In the third, it was another quick inning for Scherzer, as he was peppering the strike zone all night. In the fourth, he got into some trouble with a leadoff double, a single, and a sacrifice fly. He finished the inning well though. He came out for one batter in the fifth and got him swinging for his fourth strikeout. Offensively, Joey Loperfido had an RBI single in the first and an RBI double in the third. With the score tied at two, Kyle Datres and Phil Clarke traded home runs in the seventh to see the score still tied. The eighth inning saw Columbus take a one-run lead on an RBI single. Not to go quietly, Buffalo tied the game in the ninth via a sacrifice fly and a Will Wagner double. Riley Tirotta legged out an infield single to second base for the walk-off win. He started off shaky, walking the first three batters he faced to load the bases. He worked his way out of the jam by getting a pop-up, a fly out to right that would score one run, and another pop-up. It was mostly smooth sailing for him from there, getting four strikeouts and not allowing another run for the next three innings. He would depart after the fourth inning, having thrown 68 pitches and having a 2-1 lead on the back of Eddinson Paulino's two-run home run in the top of the third. Yesavage gave way to Grayson Thurman in the fifth, who struggled immediately. He gave up five runs in the inning, highlighted by Alex Binelas’ three-run home run. Devonte Brown would lead the charge put forth by New Hampshire in the next half of the inning, hitting a two-run home run. Dasan Brown would score on a wild pitch as well, cutting Reading's lead to 6-5. Peyton Williams tied the game up at six on a groundout in the top of the seventh. Unfortunately, Reading scored two in the bottom half of the inning and would take the win 9-7. Eddinson Paulino: 3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Trey Yesavage: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 4 K New Hampshire (1), Reading (11) - 6/13 Box Score Grant Rogers took the mound on Friday night against the Reading Fightin' Phils. He got two quick outs in the bottom of the first inning, then the flood gates opened. Five straight hits, including a two-run home run by Seth Beer would give Reading an early 5-0 lead. New Hampshire got a lead-off double and then a single to start the top of the second inning, but Gabriel Martinez, Robert Brooks, Jay Harry all stuck out to shut the door on the rally. Hendry Mendez's triple added a run to Reading's lead in the bottom half of the inning. New Hampshire finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth from a Brooks home run, a solo shot to left field. Reading matched and then topped that in the their half of the fifth, Felix Reyes hit a solo home run and Leandro Pineda launched a two-run home run. Reading would cap the scoring for the day with a two-run shot by Cade Fergus in the bottom of the seventh, as they won big 11-1. Charles McAdoo: 2-4, 1 K, 2 2B Kevin Miranda: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (10), Spokane (6) - 6/12 Box Score Gage Stanifer made his first start of the season, and although he let in three runs in the first inning, he was absolutely dominant after that. What helped a lot was the Vancouver offense, which picked up Stanifer after a tough first inning, with the Canadians scoring five runs in the bottom of the first. The Canadians continued to rack up the runs in the bottom of the third inning, with Hayden Gilliland having himself a game after coming back from New Hampshire. He had a two-hit night with three-RBIs. Sean Keys capped off the scoring outburst with a three-RBI double. Edinson Batista continued the strong pitching, striking out three batters in two innings. Julio Ortiz and Kai Peterson were less effective, as they gave up three runs total. The Canadians still won despite that, as their 10-3 lead was too high for Spokane to overcome. Sean Keys - 2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 2 2B Sean Keys is an RBI-machine, this time hitting a three-run double in the third inning to make it a ten-run game for the Canadians. He’s now up to 38 on the season and it looks like he isn’t slowing down. Gage Stanifer - 4.0 IP, 5 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 10 K Stanifer dealt with a ton of early traffic, and although he walked a couple of batters and got hit a round a bit, he struck out the side in the first inning. After that inning he was practically unhittable as he relied heavily on his slider to rack up the whiffs and the strikeouts. Vancouver (15), Spokane (0) - 6/13 Box Score This game was utter domination for the Canadians, as they dropped 15 runs on Spokane after putting a ten-spot on them the night before. The whole team combined for 16 hits, and nine walks, and every hitter on the team who played in the game got on base more than once. They scored eight runs alone on Alberto Pacheco, who the Indians left to die after struggling with the usage of bullpen arms prior. The Spokane bullpen barely fared any better, as they also let in seven runs, whereas the Canadians pitchers continued to keep the Indians scoreless. Aaron Munson’s second go in Vancouver was quite successful, with three scoreless innings to drop his season ERA to 3.51, and Jonathan Todd pitched two scoreless innings of his own. Je’Von Ward - 1-2, 2 R, 2 RBI, 3 BB, 1 2B Ward was signed after being released by the Brewers, and he’s been one of the weirdest profiles in the minor leagues. Prior to this game, he’s walked over 30% of the time, and he’s somehow increased that rate with a three walk game. He’ll be in contention to break the High-A single-season walk rate record. Chris McElvain - 4.0 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 K McElvain had a better start after his first start back in Vancouver, and he was very solid, only allowing three hits in four innings, and still striking out four batters. The pitcher that was acquired for Santiago Espinal is still building up after recovering from Tommy John surgery, which is why he was taken out after four innings. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (4), Fort Myers (3) - 6/12 - Game 1 (7) Box Score This game had a ton of delays as the weather in Dunedin refused to cooperate. Kendry Rojas was scheduled to start this game on the 11th, but the game was postponed to the 12th, where he pitched a grand total of one inning before the game was postponed until the 13th. Tucker Toman helped Dunedin score the first run of the game with an RBI single in the first with two outs, and it took another day before Alexis Hernandez scored two more runners of his own with his single. Those were all the runs that the Jays needed as the Mighty Mussels could only muster up two runs after Austin Cates and the bullpen pitched strong innings after Rojas was taken out. Kendry Chirinos struck out afterward, but Yhonagel Aponte moved Shaw to third on a single. Manuel Beltre came up to the dish and drove in Shaw for the only run of the game. Gilberto Batista came in after Maroudis was taken out and completed the shutout, giving up two hits in three innings and striking out six batters. They committed almost as many errors as they had hits, four hits to three errors. The Yankees team scored three in the third on a ground out, sacrifice fly, and bases loaded walk. A David Beckles RBI groundout would pull the Blue Jays within two. Unfortunately, the Yankees team went on a scoring bender in the seventh inning, adding four more runs on double and a single. The Yankees would win this one easily, 7-1. Drew Jemison- 1-3, 1 R, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 2B Lluveres Severino- 3.1 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K F-BLU (5), F-YAN (4) - 6/13 Box Score Brandon Barriera got the start in this one and it didn't really go well. He struck out the first batter, walked the next two, and then was removed in the middle of the fifth batter of the inning. Hopefully, it was just a hard pitch count removal and not another injury. From there, a wild pitch and a two-run single scored three runs for the Yankees team. The Blue Jays team got on the board in the bottom of the second with a run-scoring single from Raimundo De Los Santos. In the bottom of the sixth, David Beckles drove a ball over the fence for his fourth home run of the season, bringing the Blue Jays team within two runs. In the final inning, the seventh, the Yankees threw the ball around the diamond and let the Blue Jays come back. The Blue Jays team scored three runs, including the walk-off on an error. The first two innings were fairly quiet. BJR started the game by getting a single from Kennew Blanco and a walk by Randy Soto, before Pascual Archila struck out to end the threat. BJB got two men on as well, Rafael Flores was hit by a pitch and Juarlin Soto walked. Carlos Garcia ended their rally with a groundout to the pitcher. In the bottom of the second, BJB again had something going, loading the bases with three straight singles. Cristopher Polanco hit one hard, but it was a line drive to right field and ended the inning. Things unraveled quickly for BJB in the top of the third. BJR loaded the bases and then scored on two hit by pitches, three on a single and an error from Rafael Flores, and another from a single by Elaineiker Coronado. BJR added a seventh run to the scoreboard from a sacrifice fly by Luis Felipe in the fourth. They added two more in the fifth and sixth, both on wild pitches. Endry Reyes got their tenth run of the game on his single in the fifth. BJR wasn't done, they scored a run in the 8th on yet another wild pitch and their twelfth and final run from an error in the ninth inning. BJB was beat down by their organizational mates on the BJR team 12-0. BJB pitchers struggled once again with runners on base, allowing a run to score via a hit by pitch and three runs on three wild pitches (just as in their previous game). In the top of the sixth, BJB got two RBI doubles from Esmeiquel Arrieche and Angel Guzman to cut the lead to 11-5. Neither team would add any more runs as BJB fell again. The first two innings were fairly quiet. BJR started the game by getting a single from Kennew Blanco and a walk by Randy Soto, before Pascual Archila struck out to end the threat. BJB got two men on as well, Rafael Flores was hit by a pitch and Juarlin Soto walked. Carlos Garcia ended their rally with a groundout to the pitcher. In the bottom of the second, BJB again had something going, loading the bases with three straight singles. Cristopher Polanco hit one hard, but it was a line drive to right field and ended the inning. Things unraveled quickly for BJB in the top of the third. BJR loaded the bases and then scored on two hit by pitches, three on a single and an error from Rafael Flores, and another from a single by Elaineiker Coronado. The Buffalo offense got going in the second inning with five runs on a bases-loaded hit by pitch and three singles. Orelvis Martinez capped off the inning with the third RBI single. In the fourth and sixth innings, it was the Riley Tirotta show, as he hit a solo home run and an RBI double that brought in Yohendrick Pinango. In the ninth, Martinez smashed his fourth home run in three games via a 106.6 MPH blast. Will Robertson would tack on a sacrifice fly, and Buffalo would win this one easily, 9-1. Brandon Sproat got the start for the Syracuse Mets and he had the Bisons off-balance all night. He used his deep pitch mix to keep Buffalo from making hard contact, as their bats were hitting easy fly outs or pop-ups most of the night. His final line was six innings, five hits, zero earned runs, two walks, and struck out four. Buffalo threatened in the second inning with bases loaded and one out, but a line out by Josh Rivera and a fly out from Yohendrick Pinango ended the best scoring chance they would have. Spencer Turnbull, making the start for Buffalo, got through two innings before the runs started to pile up. In the end he gave up four runs in almost five innings. From there, the Mets would score 11 more runs before the eighth inning. The big hit was a Drew Gilbert grand slam in the seventh. In the eighth, first baseman Rainer Nunez would come on to the pitch. He would get three outs, give up three hits, a walk, and just two earned runs. Ultimately, Syracuse would take this one without a challenge from Buffalo, 18-0. Riley Tirotta- 2-4, 0 R, 0 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K Rainer Nunez- 1 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 0 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (2), Altoona (0) - 6/5 Box Score New Hampshire went into the third game of the series with Altoona looking to continue their two-game shutout streak and add to their 20 2/3 straight innings without giving up a run. Eddinson Paulino tripled in the top of the first and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Charles McAdoo. In the bottom of the fourth, Gabriel Martinez doubled and scored on Devonte Brown's single. That would be all New Hampshire needed, as Juaron Watts-Brown threw a gem on the mound. He went six really strong innings and only gave up four baserunners, one hit and three walks. He passed the mound to Nate Garkow in the seventh with a 2-0 lead. Garkow threw a shutout inning himself and then Alex Amalfi came in and closed the game out by throwing two shutout innings as well. New Hampshire extended their scoreless inning streak to 29 2/3 innings with their 2-0 win. Eddinson Paulino: 2-4, 1 R, 1 2B, 1 3B Juaron Watts-Brown: 6 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K New Hampshire/Altoona - 6/6 PPD Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (9), Tri-City (4) - 6/5 Box Score The Canadians had another bullpen day, with Edinson Batista starting for the second time this season. Batista gave up a single run after an error, but in the fourth inning the Canadians dropped three runs on the Dust Devils with a Jackson Hornung RBI single, a sac hit from Carter Cunningham and Hayden Gilliand’s return to the Canadians came with a sac fly to make it 3-1. Je’Von Ward singled to score Arjun Nimmala in the fourth, but Irv Carter, who replaced Batista, had a rough bottom of the fifth giving up an RBI double and balking in a run to make it a one run game. Pat Gallagher replaced Carter and gave up an RBI double himself, evening up the game for the two teams, but Carter Cunningham came up big again with an RBI single in the top of eighth inning and Victor Arias clearing the bases after a single and a throwing error by Randy De Jesus. Immediately after Arias scored on a wild pitch, which became the final score at Vancouver 9, Tri-City 4. The bullpen cleaned it up after Gallagher’s appearance was over, as Chay Yeager and Kai Peterson pitched 2 1/3 perfect innings with four strikeouts. Jackson Hornung - 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 2 K Hornung has been the best hitter for the Canadians, he’s been buoyed by a .425 BABIP, but he has hit .330 so far this season. Edinson Batista - 2.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K Batista has been slowly getting acclimated to the Jays farm system after being traded earlier in the season. This was his best appearance as a member of the Jays organization and hopefully is more signs of things to come. Vancouver (10), Tri-City (1) - 6/6 Box Score It was another highly anticipated Yesavage-Stanifer day, as both pitchers lived up to their hype, striking out a combined 15 batters, giving up only one run, four hits, and three walks between the two of them. The middle and bottom half of the order were the main run producers for the Canadians, with Nick Goodwin knocking in the first two runs for the Canadians with a single in the second, and after Yesavage gave up the only run to the Dust Devils on a Ben Gobbel homer, the game was broken up with a Cutter Coffey homer that scored three runs. Gage Stanifer came in to piggyback off of Yesavage as per usual, and continued his excellence, getting the save in four innings of work. The command has still been a little shaky for him, but he’s shown enough to be highly effective. The seventh inning was a ton of extra base hits for the Canadians, as Je’Von Ward tripled to start off the inning, which led to a Sean Keys sac fly to add another run. Jackson Hornung tripled himself, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. swung on the first pitch he saw and took Leonard Garcia deep to score another two runs. Nick Goodwin went back-to-back with an absolutely massive tank to make it 9-1 for the Canadians. The game progressed quickly after, as both the Dust Devils and Canadians racked up the strikeouts, but some shoddy defense let a few runners on, and one was scored by Eddie Micheletti Jr. with a sac fly to make it double digits runs scored. Nick Goodwin - 2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB Goodwin has been red-hot in June, with his fourth homer of the month. Trey Yesavage - 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 9 K Yesavage continues his season-long dominance, upping his strikeout total to 88 on the season. The stadium radar gun had Yesavage topping out at 99 mph, and the other pitches were all sharp as he generated 17 whiffs. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (3), St. Lucie (2) - 6/5 - Game 1 (7) Box Score The first game of the doubleheader after the previous day’s game was postponed began with a strong start from both Mets and Jays starters, with both starters going five innings or more. The Jays were able to get to Irving Cota in the fourth inning though, as they got two runs from a Jean Joseph double and a Sam Shaw single. They got an additional run in the fifth, with Tucker Toman’s eighth double of the season. That was enough to give Cota his first loss of the season, and Javen Coleman got the save although he gave up an unearned run from a Sam Shaw throwing error. He continues his strikeout ways with three strikeouts in two innings of work. Jean Joseph - 2-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B The 20-year old Dominican has had a successful second trip in Dunedin, although he’s walking only at a 2.4% clip, he’s had a 116 wRC+ on the season with 11 doubles and two homers. Daniel Guerra - 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 2 K Guerra had his good fastball today, sitting in the mid 90s with his fastball with over 18 inches of ride. He mixed in some cutters and a few changeups to keep hitters off-balance, but was able to limit damage using mostly his fastball. Dunedin (3), St. Lucie (2) - 6/5 - Game 2 (7) Box Score After winning game one of the doubleheader, the Jays tried to win both games today, and they started off strong with a great performance from Gilberto Batista. Peyton Powell knocked in the first run of the game as well, scoring Sam Shaw on a single to the third baseman. However, the tight lead wasn’t enough as Colby Martin was human, walking four batters, although he got squeezed a little after the Jays used up all their challenges and he walked a hitter on an obvious strike. He ended up loading the bases in the bottom of the seventh, and was replaced by Jay Schueler, who could not hold the lead, as he gave up a walk-off grand slam. Peyton Powell 1-3, 1 RBI, 2 K Gilberto Batista - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Batista continues to be quietly effective for the D-Jays, with a scoreless start lowering his ERA to 3.02. He’s been very effective at keeping hitters off balance, as he got hitters to chase over 42% of the time despite not being in the zone all that much, as his deep mix has batters kerfuffled. Dunedin (4), St. Lucie (0) - 6/6 Box Score After the doubleheader the previous day, the Dunedin Blue Jays got a massive performance from their pitchers, shutting out the Mets while only giving up three hits and two walks. Cates earned his first win of the season and the offense did just enough to earn the win. Peyton Powell gave the Jays an early lead with an RBI double in the third, and the game was a stalemate until the eighth inning, as Juanmi Vazquez got his first hold with 2 ⅓ scoreless innings, while the Mets bullpen also limited baserunners. However, the Jays threatened with two runners on with two outs in the top of the eighth with Tucker Toman at the dish, and he delivered, pushing the lead to 4-0 for the Jays, which led to a win as Bennett Flynn struck out two batters to finish off the game. Tucker Toman - 1-4, 1 H, 3 RBI, 2 K Toman hit just his second homer of the season, but it was a big one, as he gave the Jays a big cushion. He’s struggled since coming off the temporary inactive list but has started to heat up in June. Austin Cates - 5.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Cates has continued his hot end to May with another strong start, this time getting is first professional win. His low 90s rising fastball has been hit hard, but it pairs extremely well with his splitter which he commanded really well and limited hard contact. FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (14), F-YAN (11) - 6/5 Box Score This one was a slugfest from start to finish. The Yankees squad struck quickly, with an RBI single in the first. The Blue Jays team countered with a run on a Yorman Licourt double play. In the fourth, two doubles, a single, and a fielder's choice scored five runs for the Yankees team. In the fifth, they added three more to their lead. In the sixth, the Blue Jays team started to chip away at the deficit. They scored four runs on two hits and an RBI walk. A Wilson Rodriguez home run for the Yankees team gave them a five-run lead going into the ninth. In the ninth the Jays came alive, Maykel Minoso drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, Drew Jemison brought in two with a single, and Licourt doubled to tie the game at 10. In the tenth, an RBI single and a three-run home run from Jemison gave the Blue Jays team a four-run lead and they would shut the door on the Yankees to win this one. Drew Jemison- 4-5, 2 R, 5 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR Diego Dominguez- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K F-BLU (0), F-PHI (2) - 6/6 Box Score In this seven-inning game with the Phillies squad, the Blue Jays team struggled with the bats. On the other hand, the pitching was on point, starting with Brandon Barriera making his season debut rehabbing from elbow surgery last season. He went two innings and only allowed one hit and zero runs. Nick Sandlin, also in Florida rehabbing, gave up two runs in the fourth inning on a two-run double. In the fifth, the Blue Jays squad threatened to score after a walk, a hit by pitch, and a single from Dariel Ramon loaded the bases. A ground ball double play would end the scoring chance though. The Blue Jays team would only manage two hits in the entire game and would lose by a 2-0 score. BJB got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a Juarlin Soto bases loaded walk. Their big inning came in the bottom of the sixth. They loaded the bases, before J.T. Bain singled home Darwin Núñez from third. It was followed up by an Angel Guzman sacrifice fly scoring Daniel Dominguez. A wild pitch would score Esmeiquel Arrieche. They were then aided by a TWI error, scoring Bain. Their last run in the inning came on a Soto single. The five-run inning was enough for BJB to take the win 6-4. MEO tied the game up in the top of the second inning, before BJR took the lead back in the bottom half of the inning. Coronado singled home Keegan Pieternella, who had reached third base following a couple of more passed balls. Randy Soto added another run to the lead on a groundout, scoring Endry Reyes. The game would be suspended after the bottom of the third and will be resumed on Saturday. Estrada was again very good, as he continues to improve with May coming to a close. He pitched 5.2 innings, gave up just the one earned run, held the Knights to three hits, and struck out five. Down 2-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Buffalo would start a rally. Orelvis Martinez reached base to start the inning on a catcher's interference. With two outs, Will Robertson pinch-hit and blasted a home run to right field, scoring Martinez. With the game tied, Robert Brooks and Jimenez walked. Alan Roden would come to the plate and hit a walk-off single. Buffalo tied the game immediately in their frame of the inning with an RBI single from Josh Rivera. In the third, Will Robertson launched his second home run of the day to give Buffalo a two-run lead. Joey Loperfido added an insurance run in the sixth and Buffalo would win this game 5-2. Davis Schneider singled in Leo Jimenez for the first run and a disengagement violation brought in a second. The lead was short lived; the Buffalo starting pitcher, Adam Kloffenstein, gave up two home runs and an RBI single in the top of the second inning. Buffalo tied the game in the third on a Damiano Palmegiani sacrifice fly. From there, both teams went quiet, as the game remained tied at three until the ninth inning. Charlotte would push across two runs on RBI singles and close the door on Buffalo in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Bisons. Joey Loperfido- 1-3, 2 R, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 2B Adam Kloffenstein- 5 IP, 3 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (2), Hartford (3) - 5/29 Box Score New Hampshire had Devereaux Harrison on the mound Thursday for the game against Hartford. For the first three innings of the game he kept Hartford in check, but used a ton of pitches to get through them. The pressure was taken off of him in the top of the first inning, as Charles McAdoo hit his third home run of the season to give New Hampshire a 1-0 lead. In the fourth inning, Harrison would get chased from the game a batter after walking in the tying run. The momentum was short-lived for Somerset, as Jace Bohrofen doubled home RJ Schreck in the following half inning. A two-RBI single by Jose Cordova gave the lead back to Somerset in the bottom of the fifth inning. New Hampshire struggled the rest of the game, only drawing one walk and not getting any more hits. They would fall to Somerset 3-2. Charles McAdoo 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 K, 1 HR McAdoo hit his third home run of the season on Thursday. He has gone on a little bit of a mini power surge since being activated off of the development list. This was his second home run in his fourth game back and he has a hit in all three games he has started. Michael Dominguez: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K With the influx of newly promoted pitchers, Dominguez may have to see more of his outings come from the bullpen. He has lowered his ERA to 1.42 on the season. New Hampshire (4), Hartford (3) F/10 - 5/30 Box Score In the Friday night game between New Hampshire and Hartford, the Fisher Cats sent Juaron Watts-Brown to the mound in hopes his second start at Double A was better than his first. In the bottom of the second inning, Hartford got to Watts-Brown and made it on the scoreboard first. Watts-Brown hit Braiden Ward, who then stole second base, and ultimately scored on a Jose Cordova single. Yohendrick Pinango promptly gave the lead to New Hampshire in the top of the third inning on his eighth home run of the season, a three-run blast to right field. Hartford would score another run in the bottom of the fifth inning on a missed catch error by Peyton Williams. The play would lead to the New Hampshire manager being ejected. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Hartford tied the game up at three with an RBI single by Jose Torres. That is where the score remained, until the top of the tenth and a Pinango sacrifice fly. It would give New Hampshire the win by a score of 4-3. Yohendrick Pinango: 1-4, 1 R, 4 RBI, 2 K, 1 HR Juaron Watts-Brown: 6 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (2), Hillsboro (3) - 5/29 Box Score It was a slow day for the Canadians’ offense after a few offensive outbursts, as Hillsboro starter Daniel Eagen had a good start, striking out eight batters and only allowing three hits, two walks and no earned runs. Jackson Wentworth had more traffic on the base paths but still only allowed one run as well, leading to a close 1-0 lead for Hillsboro through six innings of work. Nate Savino was also nasty, striking out five batters in 2 1/3 innings of work and the Canadians could only muster up one hit on him, while Pat Gallagher got stung by the defense as a Sean Keys error led to a two unearned run inning for the splitter-heavy pitcher. Chay Yeager came in and pitched two solid innings for the Canadians again, which kept them close enough to threaten in the bottom of the ninth, with Eddie Micheletti Jr. hitting a two-run double to bring it within one with no outs. Gabriel Martinez moved the runner over to third with a single, but a Nick Goodwin Lineout, Nicolas Deschamps strikeout, and a Victor Arias ground out prevented them from getting over the hump. Eddie Micheletti Jr. - 1-3, 2 RBI, 1 2B Micheletti Jr. knocked in the only two runs for the Canadians to spark a failed comeback in the bottom of the ninth. Jackson Wentworth - 5.1 IP, 8 H, 1 ER, 3 K Wentworth had a solid start, despite giving up eight base hits and only striking out three batters on the night. Wentworth has struggled recently to generate whiffs, as hitters have been on his pitches, but he’s been able to limit the damage. Vancouver (8), Hillsboro (1) - 5/30 Box Score It was a bullpen day for the Canadians, as Edinson Batista took his first start of the season since joining the Jays organization. He gave up a few hits in the first inning that allowed Hillsboro to take an early 1-0 lead, but Eddie Micheletti Jr. homered to tie it up directly in the bottom of the same inning. The inning immediately after, the Canadians loaded them up with two outs for Eddie Micheletti Jr. to come up again and deliver on a grand slam that gave the Canadians the lead for good. The bullpen finished off the game nicely, with Irv Carter, JJ Sanchez, Kai Peterson, and Jonathan Todd combining for two hits given up, one walk given up, and nine strikeouts in six innings of work. Jackson Hornung, who was a division three catcher before getting picked up by the Jays, increased the lead again in the seventh with a three RBI triple which made the game finish off at 8-1. Eddie Micheletti Jr. - 2-5, 2 R, 5 RBI, 2 HR Micheletti Jr. had the game of his pro career, with a two homer night that included a grand slam to give the Canadians the lead that they ran away with. Micheletti Jr. raised his slugging percentage from .300 on May 15th to .415 in just half a month. He’s had a .474 slugging percentage throughout the month of April. Irv Carter - 3.0 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 3 K Carter was placed on the development list for two weeks and struggled on his first appearance back, giving up four earned runs against Eugene on the 23rd of May. This outing went a lot better for him, as he pitched three one-hit innings and played a key role in keeping the Hops to just one run. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (4), Clearwater (6) - 5/29 Box Score The Dunedin Blue Jays faced former Phillies top prospect Griff McGary, who was just recently placed on a rehab assignment, and couldn’t do much, striking out four times in two innings of work. Zack Tukis replaced him in the third and was perhaps even better, striking out five batters in only three innings of work. Despite going down early, the D-Jays were able to get on the board after Tukis was taken out on a Sam Shaw RBI-single, and in the seventh Jacob Lojewski tied it up 3-3 for the D-Jays. Andres Gimenez hit a sac fly to give the D-Jays a lead, but Eminen Flores allowed an unearned run to tied it back up, and then Javen Coleman struggled once again allowing two runs including a Solo shot in the eighth, which blew the save for the D-Jays and they haven’t been able to come back from behind. Sam Shaw - 1-4, 1 RBI, 1 SB Daniel Guerra - 5.0 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 4 K Guerra hasn’t been at his best as a starter, but didn’t allow a single walk and struck out four hitters over five innings. The tall righty still needs to harness his pitches but has done admirably after a few of his teammates were promoted without many replacements. Dunedin (4), Clearwater (10) - 5/30 Box Score Dunedin’s slide continues even further, as they cannot break this losing streak, now six straight. After a solo homer given up in the second, poor fielding led to three unearned runs. Some weird shenanigans happened in the fourth inning, with Threshers first baseman grounding out to third and then getting ejected promptly after. The Jays got some runs back in the sixth inning, with Edward Duran extending his hit streak to 21, and Tucker Toman drove in two runs. Bryce Arnold was also taken out of the game after getting hit by a pitch earlier. After Batista was taken out Flynn and Larue struggled, with four earned runs given up by the both and a few base hits and walks. Colby Martin also gave up his first run on the season, and despite efforts from Jean Joseph or Manuel Beltre, it was hard to overcome such a lead. Tucker Toman - 2-4, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB Gilberto Batista - 5 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Batista continues to over-perform his expectations as a starter, allowing only one earned run (three unearned) and continues the strong pitching from starters in the Jays farm system. Sam Shaw continues to struggle defensively, making the error that resulted in those three runs scoring. FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (7), F-PHI (2) - 5/29 Box Score The Toronto Blue Jays squad set the tone early in this one with Landen Maroudis on the mound, still rehabbing from surgery last year. He went four innings in this one and only surrendered two hits, to go with one walk, while striking out two batters, and not giving up a run. Offensively, both teams were quiet until the sixth inning. That was when the Blue Jays team took the lead by a sacrifice fly from Enmanuel Bonilla. In the bottom half of the inning, the Phillies team would tie it on a Meylin De Leon home run. In the seventh, the Blue Jays would blow the game open with a bases loaded double from Yorman Licourt and a two-run triple from Aldo Gaxiola. Both teams would trade sacrifice flies, as the Blue Jays team finished this one with a 7-2 win. They got things started in the first inning with a Davis Schneider single and a Riley Tirotta ground ball single to right field. This set the stage for Orelvis Martinez, who hit a double down the right field line to score both runs. In the third inning, Tirotta launched his sixth home run to give Buffalo a 3-0 lead. Later in the inning, Martinez would rocket a triple, though he was stranded on the bases. In the fourth inning, Rainer Nunez pulled a hanging slider for a 361-foot home run, continuing his recent hot stretch. In the fifth inning, Buffalo kept things going and piled on the runs. After loading the bases, Nunez brought in two more runs on a double down the left field line. Josh Rivera would then add to his hit total on the night with a two-RBI single. From there, Buffalo went quiet, and Lehigh kept chipping away at the lead. By the eighth inning, the Buffalo lead was down to 8-6, but the Bisons got back to their hitting ways. Joey Loperfido added an RBI single, Martinez another RBI double, and then four more RBI singles followed. Buffalo would stampede away with this game 14-6. Somerset was prepared to match them on the cold and dreary night. The Patriots got on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning, when Cole Gabrielson singled home two runs, before Ryan Watson was able to escape the jam. New Hampshire tried to match in the bottom half of the inning, with Peyton Williams scoring from third base on an error by the catcher. In the third inning, Garrett Martin smashed a home run off of Watson to extend Somerset's lead to two. In New Hampshire's half of the inning, Eddinson Paulino hit a home run of his own. The line drive to right field scored two, himself and RJ Schreck who had walked. In the fifth inning, Hunter Gregory replaced Watson on the mound and promptly gave up a two-run home run to Brennan Davis. Somerset would add another run in the top of the sixth inning on the backs of errors by Paulino and Alex De Jesus. In the bottom half of the inning, De Jesus would make up for his error and triple in Dasan Brown. Schreck tried to play hero in the next inning, when he sent a ball over the right field wall for a home run, scoring two and tying the game up at six apiece. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not keep New Hampshire within striking distance of Somerset, as they gave up three runs in the top of the eighth inning. The Fisher Cats fell to the Patriots in a fun game, 9-6. RJ Schreck: 2-4, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR, 1 SB Schreck gave a hanging breaking ball a ride out of the ballpark for his eighth home run of the season. He showed a little more depth to his profile with a stolen base as well. He brought his average up to .272 and his OPS up to .958 on the season. Despite his strong numbers, he does seem to still be flying under the radar some. Grayson Thurman: 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (5), Eugene (6) - 5/22 Box Score After Trey Yesavage’s debut on Tuesday, Khal Stephen had his chance to debut for Vancouver, and although he struggled with command hitting two batters and walking two more, he was decently effective in three innings of work, as he struck out four batters and only allowed a single run off a homer from Jonah Cox. Arjun Nimmala hit his ninth homer on the year, which leads the Northwest League to even it up at one apiece in the fourth. Kai Peterson and Yondrei Rojas were excellent in relief after Stephen was taken out, as they pitched a combined three no-hit innings with four strikeouts, with Yondrei Rojas continuing to not have allowed a single earned since coming back from the injured list. Nimmala continued to help lead the charge offensively, getting a double in the sixth which led to Gabriel Martinez scoring almost immediately after, and then scoring himself in the eighth off of a wild pitch. Unfortunately, the bullpen could not hold its excellence, and Aaron Munson blew his third save of the year allowing three runs in one inning of work. Bo Bonds has also struggled a bit recently, allowing two runs himself, making it much more difficult for the Canadians to come back. Nimmala managed to get on from an error which led to a bunch of traffic and two runs came in during the ninth inning, but they were unable to get over the hump and tie the game back up. Arjun Nimmala - 3-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 2B, 1 HR Nimmala has the fourth-highest wRC+ in the Northwest League at only 19 years old, two or three years younger than many players above him. His progression has been so shocking that he may get the opportunity to move up to New Hampshire sometime this year if he manages to keep this up. Khal Stephen - 3.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K, 1 HR Some first game jitters plagued Stephen’s start, but he’s a smart guy with a great feel for what he wants to do and improve on. Although the secondaries weren’t nearly as sharp nor in the zone, Stephen proved that he could hold his own against High-A hitters. Vancouver (5) , Eugene (8) - 5/23 Box Score The Canadians continued to get off to slower starts, with them allowing three earned runs in only the first three innings, as Wentworth dealt with a lot of traffic. In the fourth inning the Canadians had a big one, with five runners scoring for them. Unfortunately, those were the only runs scored for the Canadians, as Irv Carter took the mound to replace Wentworth and immediately gave up a run to put the Emeralds within one. He almost got through the fifth inning unscathed, but was taken deep in the bottom of the fifth to raise his season ERA to 11.40. Sean Keys - 1-2, 1 R, 2 BB, 1 K Keys has an OBP .150 points higher than his batting average, as he’s been one of the most consistent hitters at getting on base. The power/discipline combo has been just as advertised. Jackson Wentworth - 4 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 6 K This was Jackson Wentworth's second straight start giving up four earned runs to go along with six strikeouts. He has struggled with command and hitters being able to get a bunch of base hits off on him in recent memory. If he could reign in his command while remaining to be an effective pitcher with strong stuff he could be a key member of the Vancouver rotation. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (4), Tampa (7) - 5/22 Box Score Colby Holcombe took the bump for the D-Jays, but the hitters had to face a strong starter themselves. Griffin Herring has been one of the better pitchers in Low-A to start the season, and the Jays had to withstand the full brunt of his power, as he went six no-hit innings with 10 strikeouts, as the D-Jays hitters had no clue how to deal with it. Erik Swanson made his second rehab appearance and didn’t allow a run yet. Eminen Flores was wild again, striking out three hitte and three batters Colby Holcombe - 5.0, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Holcombe had another solid start, and if not for the performance from Tarpon’s pitcher Herrin, would have put the Jays in a strong position to win. He sat 94 mph on the fastball and although he didn’t get many whiffs on it, he pounded the zone to keep hitters honest. Edward Duran - 1-3, 1 R, 1 BB Duran has been on a bit of a heater, he’s on a 16-game hitting streak and has been the second best hitter for the D-JAys so far this season. The strong defensive catcher took a half-day off as the designated hitter for Dunedin. Dunedin (13), Tampa (9) - 05/23 Box Score Daniel Guerra could not get out of the inning for the Blue Jays, as he was taken out in two-thirds of an inning allowing three runs, while only striking out one batter. Edward Duran continued his hitting streak up to 17 now, and Peyton Powell brought it within one in the bottom of the 1st as well to help pick up Guerra’s poor start. Juanmi Vazquez came in after Guerra, and he pitched great, allowing a solo shot in the third to Tyler Wilson, but kept it close for the Jays, striking out six hitters in 3 1/3 innings of work. Bryce Arnold evened it up with a two run homer to score the fourth run of the game for the D-Jays. In the fifth, the Jays went ahead with a four-run inning and Lizandro Rodriguez hitting his first RBI in A-Ball, but some shaky defense in the seventh resulted in three unearned runs scoring for the Tarpons in the seventh. Johan Simon was good other than that, not walking a batter and striking out four in four innings of work. The D-Jays continued to tack on, scoring another four runs in the bottom of that inning, and the Jays finally broke their losing streak. Bryce Arnold - 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K Utility man Bryce Arnold has been great offensively for the Jays and has played all over the field for the Jays. He now has the team lead in homers with six. Juanmi Vazquez - 3.1 3 H, 1 ER, 6 K FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (10), F-PHI (2) - 5/22 Box Score This was one of the more complete Complex League wins the Toronto Blue Jays have had. From the first pitch, the Blue Jays pitchers commanded the game. Adam Macko, who is rehabbing, got the start and pitched almost three perfect innings. Ultimately, surrendering just one walk and no hits, while striking out five. From there, a rehabbing Landen Maroudis took over and went 3 1/3 innings and gave up just one hit, one earned run, one walk, and struck out one. Jack Eshleman came on and finished the game out with 2 2/3 innings of no-hit ball himself. He walked one and gave up one unearned run, while striking out five hitters. On the hitting side, David Beckles had the big hit in the third inning, a two-run home run to left field. In the fifth, the Blue Jays added four runs on three RBI singles. In the sixth, Yorman Licourt and Beckles supplied the power with RBI doubles. Enmanuel Bonilla added a sacrifice fly, as the Blue Jays won this one 10-2. David Beckles- 2-5, 3 R, 3 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR, 1 2B Adam Macko- 3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K F-BLU (4), F-TIG (1) - 5/23 Box Score The Friday Complex League game turned into a showcase day for a pair of rising 18-year-old Blue Jays prospects. Johnny King starred on the mound and Andres Arias added the power at the plate, as the Blue Jays cruised to a victory in this one. The Toronto pitching dominated, led by King, who threw three innings, gave up only one hit, allowed zero runs, zero walks, and struck out five batters. Holden Wilkerson threw three innings of no-run ball and Samuel Colmenares only surrendered one run in his three innings of work on the mound. Aldo Gaxiola had an RBI single in the first inning and Arias launched a home run to left field in the second frame. Josh Kasevich, who is rehabbing, went 3-for-4 on the day and added an RBI single to the Blue Jays total. Toronto would finish this one out and win 4-1. Buffalo Bisons Buffalo (12), Worcester (1) - 5/15 Box Score Lazaro Estrada got the start for the Buffalo Bisons in this game, and he continued his recent success. From the first inning through the sixth, he dominated the talented Worcester offense. He threw six innings, only allowing three hits and one run, while striking out five. With Estrada dealing on the mound and baffling hitters, the Buffalo offense was teeing off on Worcester pitching. In the first inning, Buffalo got things started with a single by Joey Loperfido, two walks, a passed ball, and then Riley Tirotta capped off the rally with a three-run home run. In the second inning, Davis Schneider tripled, plating another run, pushing the lead to five. Five walks in the third inning led to two more runs, and a Rainer Nunez RBI single scored yet another run in the fourth inning. In the top of the fifth inning, Worcester would see their lone run of the game on a Nathan Hickey home run. Nunez would launch a three-run homer of his own in the sixth inning, and Alan Roden would finish the scoring in the eighth on a single to third base, scoring Phil Clarke. In the end, Buffalo would walk 12 times and win this one 12-1. Rainer Nunez- 2-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Lazaro Estrada- 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 5 K Buffalo (3), Worcester (10) - 5/16 Box Score In this matchup, Worcester got on the scoreboard early and often versus Buffalo starting pitcher Easton Lucas. Phillip Sikes launched two home runs across the third and fourth innings for Worcester. Along with the Sikes home runs, Yasmani Grandal homered in the fourth inning as well. Going into the bottom of the fourth, Buffalo already trailed 7-0. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Orelvis Martinez would get Buffalo a run back on a soft infield single, scoring Alan Roden from third base. In the top of the sixth inning, Buffalo would walk the bases loaded and Worcester would clear them, adding three more runs. From there, Buffalo added a run in the seventh inning off of a Riley Tirotta RBI double, scoring Martinez from first base. Buffalo would try to rally in the ninth, but the lead was too much and Worcester would give the Bisons another defeat. Riley Tirotta- 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 2B Andrew Bash- 1.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (10) Reading (11) - 5/15 Box Score In a wild and crazy game, the New Hampshire bats came alive on Thursday, but so did the bats for Reading. New Hampshire started the game quietly, notching a single and a walk in the top of the first, before Charles McAdoo hit into a double play to end the half inning. Reading quickly took control of the game in their bottom half of the inning, by way of a walk, four singles, and a double. They would end the first inning with a 5-0 lead. The hot hitting Yohendrick Pinango launched his sixth home run of the season in the top of the third inning to get New Hampshire onto the scoreboard. A Jay Harry solo shot in the top of the fifth inning cut the lead down to four, 6-2. After an RBI single for Reading by Cade Fergus in the bottom of the fifth, New Hampshire went on a scoring barrage in the sixth and seventh innings. They scored two in the sixth from a Devonte Brown double (one) and a ground out by Jay Harry (one). In the top of the seventh inning, Peyton Williams singled in one run, another scored on a balk, and two scored on a Ryan McCarty single and error by Reading in the field. New Hampshire left their top half of the inning with a lead, 8-7. In the bottom half of the inning, Reading would score on a home run, wild pitch, and a groundout. They took the lead back at 10-8. Down to their final at-bats in the ninth inning, New Hampshire tied the game with two runs on a double by Jay Harry and a single by Eddinson Paulino. Their luck ran out in the bottom of the ninth though, as a Leandro Pineda double scored the winning run for Reading and gave them the walk-off win. New Hampshire fell 11-10 in one of the more exciting games of the season. Jay Harry: 2-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K, 1 HR, 1 2B, 1 SB After his promotion to Double-A, Harry started off hot, but then disappeared for the most part. This game he did a little bit of everything and really showed off his tools. He will need more games like this to remain prospect relevant moving forward on the season. Alex Amalfi: 3.1 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K New Hampshire (2), Reading (3) - 5/16 Box Score In Friday's game, Reading jumped out to an early lead, on a Hendry Mendez two-run homer in the bottom of the first inning. They would add another run in the bottom of the fifth inning, by way of an Aidan Miller home run, giving Reading a 3-0 lead. New Hampshire managed only two hits through the first six innings and didn't get a run across home plate in that span. They finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, when hit his second home run of the season. In the eighth, Jace Bohrofen doubled home Yohendrick Pinango to cut Reading's lead to 3-2. In the ninth, Paulino walked, but never advanced past first base and the game ended with New Hampshire losing 3-2. Eddinson Paulino: 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR This was only Paulino's fifth game in May, but he has been swinging a hot bat. His batting average for the month is now .400, he has two multi-hit efforts, and a four game hitting streak. Michael Dominguez: 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 3 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (4), Everett (5) - 5/15 Box Score An uncharacteristic Grant Rogers start where he walked four batters in four and two-thirds innings of work, led the Canadians to go down early against the AquaSox, with top prospect Colt Emerson scoring the first run for Everett with an RBI single in the third inning. A wild pitch allowed Cutter Coffey to score the first run for the Canadians to tie it up, but Rogers let in another run via a Lazaro Montes single. Edinson Batista came in relief for Rogers, but his struggles after getting traded to the Jays continued, giving up three runs in the sixth with a walk and three hits to put them down 5-1. Vancouver chipped away at the lead in the half-inning directly after, with Gabriel Martinez getting driven in by Jackson Hornung. Kai Peterson and Julio came in and kept it close for the Canadians, and in the bottom of the 9th Carter Cunningham walked, then Nick Goodwin got hit by a pitch to put two runners on with no outs. Quebec City native Nicolas Deschamps laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to move both runners up, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. singled on a soft grounder to Colt Emerson to score Cunningham from third to bring the score within one. However, Nick Goodwin was aggressive rounding third thinking that the ball would sneak into the outfield and was caught stranded between third and home, getting tagged out, making it a two-out game with a runner on first. Arjun Nimmala couldn’t be a hero as the momentum was taken away from that baserunning mishap and the Canadians couldn’t get past the finish line. Gabriel Martinez - 2-4, 1 R, 1 K Martinez continues to perform well after getting a demotion, going 2-4 and scoring a run. Hopefully this stretch can let him get his timing down and he showcases the talent that put him on many top 30 Jays prospect lists a few years ago. Kai Peterson - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 K Last season Peterson was wildly effective, with over a near 40% strikeout rate, but also a near 20% walk rate, but he’s reined it in quite a bit this season, striking out “only” 29.5% of the batters that he faced, and walking 11.5%. This has let him pitch to a 1.20 ERA, although his FIP isn’t nearly as sparkling at a 4.48. The wild lefty has put his mark on the Vancouver bullpen, and kept them close enough to almost claw back victory from defeat. Vancouver (6), Everett (7) - 5/16 Box Score The game started off with Sean Keys hitting his fifth homer of the season, but Wentworth was hittable again, giving up two solo homers himself in the top of the second. Wentworth allowed another two runs in the next two innings putting Vancouver in a hole early on yet again. Cutter Coffey provided another run for the Canadians with an RBI single in the fifth, and then Keys once again hit a bomb to give the Canadians the lead in the seventh. Eddie Michelleti Jr. added one of his own in the same inning, and the Canadians needed just six more outs to finish off the game. Chay Yeager was his excellent self in the 8th, but Bo Bonds faltered for the first time this season, blowing the save with a three-run inning. Sean Keys - 3-5, 2 R, 4 RBI, 2 HR After his two homer outburst in the previous series against the Spokane Indians, Keys once again bashed a pair of homers, being one of the main spark plugs for the Canadians this game. Keys raised his slugging percentage to .469 on the season, and he’s had 14 extra base hits in 31 games this season. As a power over hit tool prospect he’s been a departure from typical Jays drafting strategy but has not disappointed. Jackson Wentworth - 5.0 IP, 8 H, 4 ER, 1 BB, 6 K Wentworth has been a bit homer prone as of late, but still struck out six batters in five innings of work. He has now given up 18 hits in his past two starts after only giving up 16 hits in his previous six starts. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (11), Bradenton (6) - 5/15 Box Score The D-Jays put on a show, getting to Carlos Castillo early scoring four runs in the first three innings to make an RBI double from Braylon Bishop an afterthought. In the fourth, Castillo was taken out, and the Jays matched that total with two homers from Sam Shaw and Yhoangel Aponte, who’s been heating up recently, as well as a sac fly from Kendry Chirinos to score Leo Jiménez, finally back on rehab assignment after contracting mono. Eminen Flores gave up a few runs after Turnbull came out, before the Jays added to their total with another three runs in the sixth, including an RBI-groundout from Dariel Ramon and Kendry Chirinos hitting a two-run shot himself. Khal Stephen pitched for what could be the last time in Dunedin, as he’s getting promoted to Vancouver, and went four innings of three-run ball, one unearned, as he gave up three doubles in the seventh. Still he struck out seven batters and continued to showcase why he was too good for Low-A, and if not for the chance of poor weather in Vancouver, he might not have even gone to Dunedin in the first place. Sam Shaw - 2-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 HR Sam Shaw has changed a lot from last season compared to this season, where in the complex league he was a high contact, zero-power type of hitter, but he’s sacrificed his contact for some real damage, with his fifth homer on the year and some really strong metrics including a greater than 90 mph average exit velocity, 15.4% barrel rate, and a 50% hard-hit rate. His contact rate has fallen 10% compared to his 2024 rookie ball season, but it sure hasn’t hurt his production at all, in fact it seems like it has helped. Spencer Turnbull - 4.0 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K Spencer Turnbull made his debut for the Dunedin Blue Jays and looked solid, sitting in the low 90s which was to be expected on his first start back. He relied on his sweeper to get Low-A hitters to whiff and was a nice sight to see him pitching again. Dunedin (2), Bradenton (4) - 05/16 Box Score The Dunedin offense slowed down after a big game the night before, only scoring two runs. Guerra was solid in his start, only allowing two runs, but the Jays struggled to stop the running game, with the Marauders living up to their name, snagging four on the night against Jays pitchers and catchers. Leo Jimenez has been solid during his rehab assignment, but the rest of the team haven’t been as good. Konnor Griffin put the game out of reach with two RBI in the seventh and ninth off Jay Schueler and Javen Coleman. Bryce Arnold hit an RBI-double in the ninth, but at that point it was too little, too late, and the Jays went out quietly after that. Leo Jimenez - 2-4, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 2B Jimenez’s second game back from rehab and he was the designated hitter, getting on base three times including an RBI double for one of the two runs scored for the D-Jays. He’ll work his way back up the Triple-A as he gets healthier and once he’s completely ready, should fight for a backup spot in the major league team’s infield as the Jays lack some bench right handed hitters. Daniel Guerra - 5.0 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Guerra returned to the rotation after pitching in relief for a few games, and he was pretty good, going five innings and only allowing two hits, one walk, and two earned runs off of a homer and triple in the second inning. Guerra pounded the zone with his fastball, which had 19 inches of rising action, which resulted in a good amount of whiffs and chase. Guerra is still developing his secondaries as they aren’t as sharp or good at generating whiffs or chase, and he’ll need to figure out a strong one. FCL Blue Jays F-BLU (1), F-TIG (9) - 5/15 Box Score This game will be one to forget for Landen Maroudis, who got the start for the Toronto Blue Jays squad. He managed to only get one out in the first inning, as he walked four batters and gave up a bases-clearing double to Javier Osorio. After Maroudis left, an RBI groundout would score another run that would be charged to him. Osorio would add a home run in the second inning and the Detroit squad would rack up eight runs in the first three innings. The Blue Jays team got on the board in the fourth on an Aldo Gaxiola single, which scored David Beckles. Detroit would add a run in the bottom of the fourth and then the bats for both teams went completely silent taking zeros the rest of the way. The Blue Jays team would lose this one 9-1. Aldo Gaxiola- 1-4, 0 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K Eliander Alcalde- 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K F-BLU (8), F-TIG (1) - 5/16 Box Score In a rematch of the Thursday game, things were much different for the Blue Jays squad. Johnny King got the start for the Blue Jays and he pitched great. He threw three innings, only allowed one hit, an unearned run, and struck out four, while allowing just one walk. This set the stage for the fourth and fifth innings, where the Blue Jays offense came alive, well kind of. They scored five runs in the fourth inning to take a four run lead, but they did so without a hit driving in a run. Three bases loaded walks scored three runs and an error by the Detroit pitcher, along with a wild pitch scored two more. In the fifth inning, the Blue Jays added two runs via a David Beckles RBI single and an Aldo Gaxiola RBI double. Yorman Licourt finished the scoring in the sixth inning with an RBI single to right field. The Blue Jays would win this one 8-1.
