Buffalo Bisons Buffalo (4), Rochester (3) - 9/13 Box Score Saturday's matchup between Buffalo and Rochester was another nail-biter. Buffalo jumped out in front in the first inning with three runs, started by Anthony Santander rocketing an RBI double. Riley Tirotta and Josh Kasevich followed with RBI singles as well to give Buffalo the 3-0 lead. Trey Lipscomb and José Tena brought Rochester within one with RBI doubles of their own in the third and fourth innings. CJ Stubbs would tie the game in the sixth inning, when he launched a home run to center field. In the top of the ninth, Phil Clarke hit a single to left field, scoring Kasevich. Buffalo would shut the door on Rochester in the bottom half of the inning, as they would go on to win 4-3. Josh Kasevich - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K Adam Kloffenstein - 4 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 4 K Buffalo (4), Rochester (5) - 9/14 Box Score The Sunday finale in the matchup with Rochester would mirror that of a lot of the games from the week, going down to the wire at the end of the game. Buffalo would again take the lead first, this time when Leo Jiménez knocked in RJ Schreck with an RBI single. Nick Schnell answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning with a two-run home run to center field. In the second and third innings, Rochester would tack on four more runs via RBI singles from Darren Baker, Phillip Glasser, and a two-run single from Juan Yepez. Dasan Brown started the comeback for the Bisons, as he launched his first Triple-A home run, a solo shot, in the sixth inning. Schreck's bases-loaded walk in the eighth and Brandon Valenzuela's solo home run in the ninth gave Buffalo a chance, as they got within one run. Unfortunately, Buffalo would lose the game when Michael Stefanic grounded out to end it. Buffalo lost a close one, this time 5-4. Brandon Valenzuela - 1-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K, 1 HR Lazaro Estrada - 2.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (2), Chesapeake (1) - 9/13 Box Score The weekend set of games against Chesapeake would start on Saturday, with New Hampshire riding a four-game win streak and looking to end the season on a high note. Fernando Perez took the mound for his final start of the season and faced off against Blake Money for the Baysox. Perez got through the top of the first inning with relative ease and struck out two batters. Money had a little more trouble, surrendering two singles, but got out of the inning unscathed with two strikeouts himself. The top of the second saw Perez get into some trouble, coughing up a single and a walk, but escaping with a strikeout. In the third, Perez wasn't as lucky. He gave up a single to Chesapeake's Carter Young and then threw the ball away on a grounder back to him, allowing Young to scamper home for the first run of the game. Each starting pitcher locked in from there, like it was a playoff game for them. Perez would end up going five innings, walking one, striking out seven, and only giving up the one unearned run. Unfortunately for New Hampshire, Money was even better. He went seven innings, gave up four hits, no walks, struck out 10, and didn't surrender any runs. The Fisher Cats came to bat in the bottom of the ninth with their winning streak on the line and down one run. Damiano Palmegiani got a base knock to left, Je'Von Ward followed it up with one to left as well. After a pitching change, Peyton Williams struck out and put New Hampshire just one out from losing. Cade Doughty walked and brought up Eddinson Paulino. The first pitch of his at-bat got away from the catcher, and Palmegiani scurried home to tie the game up at one. Three pitches later, Paulino poked one through the shifted infield for a New Hampshire walk-win, 2-1. Eddinson Paulino: 1-4, 1 RBI, 2 K Fernando Perez: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K New Hampshire (7), Chesapeake (3) - 9/14 Box Score Sunday marked the final game of the season for New Hampshire, as they didn't make the playoffs. With a five-game win streak on the line, the Fisher Cats turned to the reliable Grant Rogers to drive the ship into port, so to speak. Chesapeake got to Rogers quickly with two runs in the second from Young's RBI single and Aron Estrada's sacrifice fly. The bats for New Hampshire had his back though, putting five runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the fourth. Ward singled home Palmegiani, Williams had an RBI double, and J.R. Freethy launched a three-run home run to right. Estrada singled in a run in the top of the seventh for Chesapeake, cutting New Hampshire's lead down to two. In the bottom of the eighth, Ryan McCarty tacked on two more runs for the Fisher Cats, with his fourth home run at Double-A. Nate Garkow came into the game in the ninth and was locked in, setting down Chesapeake in order. New Hampshire won 7-3 and ended the season on a six-game win streak. Buffalo Bisons Buffalo (4), Rochester (5) - F/10 - 9/9 Box Score The Buffalo Bisons began a series with the Rochester Red Wings on Tuesday. The Bisons were the first on the scoreboard, when René Pinto launched his first Bisons home run in the first inning, a two-run shot scoring Michael Stefanic. In the fourth inning, Trey Lipscomb hit a three-run home run to give the Red Wings their first lead of the game. They would add to their lead by one in the eighth inning on a Phillip Glasser triple to right field. Buffalo made a late-inning comeback in the top of the ninth inning, as Yohendrick Pinango and Josh Kasevich drove in runs, each with an RBI single. The game would go to extra innings, and Buffalo would fail to score in their half of the 10th inning. Unfortunately, Rochester would walk off the Bisons on an RBI single from Lipscomb for the win. Pinango got the scoring started with a double that scored Jonatan Clase. Pinango would score on Riley Tirotta's single along with Buddy Kennedy. Later, Kasevich had an RBI single, and Stefanic hit a sacrifice fly. In the second, Pinango drove in another run with an RBI groundout. Glasser homered for Rochester before Buffalo added three more runs on two bases-loaded walks and a Brandon Valenzuela sacrifice fly. Buffalo would win this game 9-2. He started this game after coming out of the 'pen his last time out. If he is to get a chance on the major league roster, the next two weeks could see him make that push with more games like this one. New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (3), Chesapeake (2) - 9/9 Box Score New Hampshire and Toronto Blue Jays minor league fans can finally relax – though just a little. The 13-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday night, and it felt like a huge weight was lifted off of the Fisher Cats, heading into the final couple of weeks of the season. With Grant Rogers on the mound, New Hampshire gave him some run support early in the game. Damiano Palmegiani singled home Charles McAdoo, who doubled to lead off the inning. Je'Von Ward then grounded out, with Jace Bohrofen coming in to score. In the bottom of the second, Eddinson Paulino added to the New Hampshire lead with a solo home run to right field. Chesapeake finally got on the scoreboard in the next half inning. Austin Overn and Creed Willems each doubled home a run. From there, Rogers, Devereaux Harrison, Nate Garkow, and Yondrei Rojas combined to shut down and shut out the Baysox, giving the Fisher Cats their first win in over two weeks, 3-2. They sent Bobby Milacki to the mound to tackle the Chesapeake lineup, with Trace Bright toeing the rubber for the Baysox. The first two innings had some scoring threats, but neither team could get a run across, and the third inning started with the score still tied at zero. New Hampshire would be the first team to crack the scoreboard. Peyton Williams singled to right field and scored Bohrofen, followed up by an RBI groundout by Cade Doughty. Chesapeake cut into New Hampshire's lead in the seventh, when Brandon Butterworth doubled to left and scored Ethan Anderson. Later in the inning, Carter Young singled, driving in Butterworth and tying the game up at two. The game still stood all square at two when New Hampshire's Paulino lined out in the bottom of the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. The Fisher Cats would take advantage of Chesapeake failing to score in the top half of the 10th, McAdoo put down a sacrifice bunt and moved the winning run over to third base. After two intentional walks, Ward knocked a line drive to right that found the outfield grass for a walk-off single. New Hampshire won this game 3-2, giving them two wins in a row. Luke Ritters’ RBI single in the top of the fourth inning was the lone run for Syracuse. Buddy Kennedy capped off the scoring in the game with an RBI single of his own in the next half inning. They only managed two hits in the game and they both came on back-to-back plays in the fifth inning, Yohendrick Pinango singled and Brandon Valenzuela singled right after him. Josh Rivera hit into a double play, scoring Pinango for the Bisons' only run. Syracuse conversely had a huge fourth inning to take control of the game. They would score six runs on an RBI single, RBI double, a sacrifice fly, a bases-loaded walk, another bases-loaded walk, and a second sacrifice fly. Buffalo would lose this game easily, 7-1. Yohendrick Pinango- 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K Mason Fluharty- 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 0 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (1), Somerset (4) F/5 - 9/4 Box Score Wednesday brought with it yet another chance for New Hampshire to snap the dismal skid they have been on for almost two weeks. Coming into the game, they had lost nine in a row and 11 of their last 13. Somerset put New Hampshire in a bind early, when they jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a Dylan Jasso RBI ground out. In the second, Diomedes Hernandez knocked in a run on an RBI single to center and moved up a base on a throwing error by Jace Bohrofen. Luckily it didn't hurt New Hampshire, as the next batter grounded out to end the inning. In the third, Somerset tacked on two more runs, one on a solo home run by George Lombard Jr. and the second on an RBI triple by Garrett Martin. New Hampshire finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the fifth inning, Robert Brooks shot a ball center for a sacrifice fly, scoring Ryan McCarty. Unfortunately for the Fisher Cats, the rain came down and would not stop, as the game was called after the top of the fifth, with Somerset winning 4-1. Ryan McCarty: 2-2, 1 R, 2 2B Pat Gallagher: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K New Hampshire (0), Somerset (4) - 9/5 Box Score Ten games in a row, 12 of their last 14, that's how bad the current stretch of games has been for New Hampshire. They sent Gage Stanifer to the mound on Friday night, in hopes he would be their savior and end this horrid streak. It would be Stanifer's debut at Double A, a tall task under normal circumstances, but with terrible play and Somerset countering with their ace Carlos Lagrange, New Hampshire was crawling in mud, uphill, in a rain storm. Stanifer breezed through the first inning in just seven pitches, highlighted by a strikeout looking of top 100 prospect, George Lombard Jr. The second saw Stanifer record two more strikeouts and look about as dominant as advertised. Then came the third. Stanifer surrendered a walk and single, followed by a delay when the Fisher Cats’ manager was ejected from the game for arguing a safe call at second on a double steal, an ominous sign of things to come. Somerset drew another walk when play resumed, loading the bases with zero outs. Stanifer then walked the next two batters and gave Somerset a two-run lead. Jace Avina would drive home a third run when he grounded into a double play. Stanifer would get the next hitter to ground out as well and end the damage. Unfortunately for New Hampshire, Jackson Castillo would lead off the fourth inning with a solo home run, before Stanifer got the next three outs, another double play ball and a strikeout. Ultimately, the up and down debut for Stanifer was not going to affect the game. Lagrange was throwing so hard and accurate, I could swear flames were coming off of the ball by the time it hit the catcher's mitt. He went only five innings, gave up just two hits, only one walk, and struck out 10. Somerset's bullpen took care of the rest, as New Hampshire lost again, this time 4-0. The losing streak is now at 11 games. Je'Von Ward: 1-4, 1 K, 1 2B Bobby Milacki: 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (6), Everett (2) - 9/4 Box Score The Canadians made history today, as a pair of prospects achieved milestones and Canadians records. Jackson Wentworth took the bump, and pitched five strong innings, striking out four batters in the process. This allowed him to eclipsed the Canadians record for strikeouts, as he had 116 on the season. Arjun Nimmala reached on a fielder's choice, and then the third baseman Brandon Eike committed a throwing error, which scored the first run for Vancouver. Edward Duran singled shortly after, scoring Micheletti Jr., but Nimmala was thrown out at home. Jackson Wentworth allowed a run on a wild pitch after a Edward Duran pick off error. Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit his 24th double of the season to earn RBI number 70, and cushioned the Vancouver lead a bit. Nate LaRue came in relief after Colby Holcombe pitched a scoreless inning, and he allowed a run on a single to Charlie Pagliarini to bring the lead within one. Sean Keys also made history hitting his 18th homer of the season, tying the Vancouver Canadians franchise record. Peyton Powell added to the score with a two-run single, as the Canadians won 6-4 on a historic night. Sean Keys - 1-2, 1 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 HR Jackson Wentworth - 5 IP, 1 H, 1 R (0 ER), 4 BB, 4 K Vancouver (1), Everett (4) - 9/5 Box Score After a historic night, there was less activity in this game. However, there were some nice highlights on both ends, as the pitching combined for 15 strikeouts, with Edinson Batista having one of his best starts of the season, striking out six batters in four innings. Jonathan Todd struck out four batters himself in two innings, although he allowed two earned runs, and Julio Ortiz pitched three innings with five strikeouts. The offense was slow to get going, as the Aqua Sox got out to a four run lead before Sean Keys hit a solo homer to break the franchise record in a single season with 19. That was all she wrote for the Canadians however, as they went out quietly other than that. Sean Keys - 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 HR Edinson Batista - 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 6 K Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (0), Bradenton (4) - 9/4 Box Score Unfortunately, this was a common occurrence for a Landen Maroudis start, as he couldn’t last two innings without being replaced. He once again walked multiple batters, as well as hitting a batter. He had 53 pitches through 1 1/3 innings before getting replaced by Grif Hughes. Hughes pitched well, going two and two thirds innings without allowing a single run, and Gilberto Batista then replaced him. Batista was struggling recently, but he had a good relief appearance, striking out five hitters in four innings and only allowed a single run. The D-Jays could barely threaten, with the only extra base hit from Kendry Chirinos and an inability to score the few runners in scoring position. Dariel Ramon: 2-4, 1 2B Gilberto Batista: 4 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 5 K Dunedin (4), Bradenton (1) - 9/5 Box Score Johnny King had a bounce back start after a couple of shaky outings, as he went four and two-thirds innings of scoreless baseball. David Beckles hit his first homer as a D-Jay in the fourth to give Dunedin an early lead, and it was not relinquished until the sixth inning, where Jay Schueler gave up a double to Brent Iredale. The Jays got a few more runs, and the bullpen pitched very well, both Eminen Flores and Danny Thompson Jr. striking out six batters. Indianapolis would take the early lead on the back of Brett Sullivan's solo home run in the second inning. In the fifth inning, Buffalo tried to find some momentum, but would only muster an RBI groundout from Michael Stefanic to tie the game. Sammy Siani's solo home run in the bottom half of the inning would quickly give Indianapolis the lead back in the game. Indianapolis would keep adding runs to their total in the sixth inning, this time from a Nick Solack RBI single to right field and then Rafael Flores cleared the bases with a two-run home run. Riley Tirotta hit a hard single to center field that would score two runs for the Bisons in the eighth, but it would not be enough. Things were looking good on both accords through the first two innings. New Hampshire took the lead in the bottom of the second inning, when Jackson Hornung launched his fifth home run of the year at Double-A, this one a solo shot to right. It all went south from there for the Fisher Cats and Rogers. In the top of the third, Josue Briceño doubled home fellow top prospect Max Clark. It was followed up by both Thayron Liranzo and Briceño scoring on a Justice Bigbie single to right field. Jake Holton then capped off the big inning by doubling him Bigbie. In the bottom half of the inning, Charles McAdoo helped New Hampshire get back into the game with an RBI single that scored Jacob Sharp. A Danny Serretti solo home run in the fourth extended Erie's lead by one, before they added four more in the fifth. Rogers would leave the game in the idle of the inning, but was on the hook for some of those runs, ending his night surrendering eight runs (seven earned). It just wasn't in the cards for New Hampshire, as Erie added another run in the seventh and won easily, 10-2. After Rafael Sanchez set down Erie in order in the top of the first inning, New Hampshire's bats put up a crooked number to set the tone for the game. Je'Von Ward singled home Victor Arias and then stole second base, before scoring himself on Ryan McCarty's single. Alex De Jesus would cap off the scoring for the inning and smack a ball to center for a sacrifice fly. In the top of the second, Erie clawed back with two runs of their own, two RBI singles from Seth Stephenson and Roberto Campos. In the third, Jake Holton singled home a run for Erie and tied the game up at three. Everything stood stagnant until the eighth, when Campos singled home his second RBI of the game and gave Erie a one-run lead late in the game. In the bottom half of the inning, New Hampshire got two singles from McCarty and Dasan Brown, but Gabriel Martinez flew out to end the inning and the scoring threat. New Hampshire had one last chance to get a run and tie it up in the bottom of the ninth, but Charles McAdoo struck out swinging to end the game. New Hampshire fell to Erie, 4-3. Ryan McCarty: 2-4, 1 RBI Devereaux Harrison: 2.2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (14), Hillsboro (11) - 8/28 - F/11 Box Score This was a barn burner of a game, as the Hops and the Canadians went back and forth trading blows, with the first couple of runs coming from Cutter Coffey, who just returned from a short IL stint, as he hit a two-run blast off of Denny Larrondo. Silvano Hechavarria had his first middling start, as the third inning went poorly for him. He allowed three runs with two RBI-triples from Jansel Luis and Cristofer Torin, and a Druw Jones sac fly in between them. He did pitch well after that, and the Canadians picked him up with a Peyton Powell RBI-single that led to J.R. Freethy’s eighth double of the season, to give the Canadians the lead back. The Hops balked in a run, then a wild pitch scored another, which led to a three run cushion for Vancouver. Silvano Hechavarria was sent out in the sixth, and allowed a single, before he was replaced with Juanmi Vasquez. He did not have a great showing, allowing a single, a walk, and a double to clear the bases to tie the game up. The Canadians punched back again, with Jay Harry knocking in Edward Duran, and Nick Goodwin scored on a wild pitch to take a two-run lead. Vasquez was not taken out, and he immediately gave up a homer, and gave up a couple more hits before getting taken out. Aaron Munson replaced him and allowed both inherited runners to score on a single to lose the lead. The Hops pitching once again lost control however, as Tucker Toman was walked, Goodwin was hit by a pitch, and after Harry moved the runners over with a grounder to short, another wild pitch allowed Toman to score to tie the game up once again. The game went to extras after scoreless innings from Munson and Javen Coleman, and the Canadians had runners on the corner after Arjun Nimmala moved to third on a wild-pitch walk to Sean Keys. Duran stopped the momentum with a double play, but Nimmala was able to score. Brett Garcia came in the tenth, and allowed the ghost runner to score on a single to Slade Caldwell but struck out two batters to bring it to the 11th. J.R. Freethy hit a big RBI single to get the lead in the ninth, and after Arjun Nimmala was intentionally walked and Sean Keys hit a sac fly, Tucker Toman hit a two-RBI double to make it 14 to 10. Garcia allowed another ghost runner to score, but that was the only run they could get. JR Freethy - 2-5, 1 R, 2 RBI, 2 BB Silvano Hechavarria - 5.1 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Vancouver (4), Hillsboro (6) - 8/29 Box Score After the crazy game from the day before, it looked like the Canadians were going to score a ton of runs again, with them going out to an early lead after Carter Cunningham and Alexis Hernandez both hitting a sac fly in the first, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. with a 2-RBI double in the second. However, Jackson Wentworth allowed two runs in the second inning, and after allowing a couple of singles, Nate LaRue came in to replace him. Modelfi Marte singled to Tucker Toman, and a couple runners scored with Toman’s throwing error to tie it up. The Canadians couldn’t score after the second inning, and after Larue hit Adrian Rodriguez with a pitch, Druw Jones hit an inside the park homer to give the Hops the lead. Colby Holcombe came in after with a solid one and two-thirds innings with three strikeouts, but that was all for the Canadians. Nick Goodwin - 2-4, 2 R, 1 BB, 1 2B Colby Holcombe - 1.1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (2), Fort Myers (5) - 8/28 Box Score Landen Maroudis’ struggles after coming back from Tommy John are still prevalent, as he only pitched two innings, this time he did strike out more batters than he walked, but it took 53 pitches for him to do so. He also gave up an early two run homer in the first inning to put the Jays down early. Eliander Alcalde replaced him in the third inning, and pitched two scoreless innings before Gilberto Batista came in. Batista was dominant, striking out eight batters, but gave up a double to Yilber Herrera, before Enrique Jimenez hit a homer off of him. The D-Jays got a couple of runs on their own with a sac fly from Jean Joseph and a solo homer from Manuel Beltre, but the Mighty Mussels kept them to just that. Eminen Flores pitched two and a third innings with four strikeouts, but he walked three batters and allowed a run as a result. Eric Snow - 2-4, 1 BB Gilberto Batista - 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 8 K Batista went fastball heavy, throwing it over 70% of the time as he was generating a ton of whiffs and chase, with a 45.5% whiff rate. Other than a two-run homer, Batista may have had his most dominant appearance as a Jay in relief. Dunedin (4), Fort Myers (11) - 8/29 Box Score Johnny King may be hitting the wall, as the third rounder out of high school has pitched over 50 innings and now has had his second “poor” start in a row. King walked four batters in two and a third innings, and he allowed four runs, with three of them being earned. Still his strikeout stuff was there, with five strikeouts and ten whiffs. The Jays and the Mighty Mussels did go back and forth, with the Jays getting on the board first with a Brock Tibbitts RBI single. A fielding error from Johnny King allowed the first run to score, but after Braden Berry got on with an error, he subsequently stole second and third before a Will Criswell groundout scored him to take the lead back. Daniel Pena hit an RBI single against King to tie the game, and King was taken out for Grif Hughes who gave up a three-run homer, allowing the two runners that King left on to score. Hughes did not have a good time for the rest of the game either, allowing three more runs, and two more homers, walking four batters as well. Maddox Latta hit an RBI single and scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to five, but that was all the D-Jays could do on offense. It was a start that showcased the top end talent of Yesavage and the growing pains. After an easy first that included two strikeouts, Yesavage hit some trouble in the second inning. A single and two doubles brought in two runs and then another single later in the inning brought in a third run. Yesavage would settle down and strike out two more batters to end the inning. He struck out two in the third and fourth inning, before leaving in the fifth after 4.2 innings pitched. RJ Schreck doubled in a run in the third and Yohendrick Pinango drove him home with a single to cut the lead to one. In the sixth, Christian Bethancourt tied the game with a home run. The seventh inning saw the RailRiders take the lead for good from a Braden Shewmake RBI triple and a Duke Ellis RBI single. Buffalo lost this one, 5-3. In the bottom of the second inning, Joe Lampe got Akron onto the scoreboard first with a hard hit line drive that made it over the fence for a solo home run to lead-off the inning. The next two batters for Akron would walk, then on a sacrifice bunt, Fernando Perez threw the ball away, allowing a run to score. It was followed by a steal of second base, on the play Robert Brooks threw the ball away as well, allowing the runner from third to score. Later in the inning, Angel Genao added another run on an RBI single, capping off a big four-run inning. In the top of the third, New Hampshire finally got on the scoreboard with a sacrifice fly by Brooks, scoring Gabriel Martinez. From there, the pitching for both teams stepped up and were lights out, with neither team scoring another run in the game. New Hampshire fell to Akron 4-1. In the second, Rogers got tagged again, this time it was an RBI single by Christian Knapczyk. Jackson Hornung grounded out in the fourth on a play that would see Gabriel Martinez score and tie the game up at three. Unfortunately for Rogers and New Hampshire, his recent string of quality starts came to an end in the bottom of the fourth, Alex Mooney singled home two runs and Akron took the lead back. The RubberDucks would score two more runs in the bottom of the seventh, on their way to a 7-3 win. Randy De Jesus hit an RBI-single off of him but he was able to keep runners off balance after that. Nick Goodwin took the lead back with his 12th homer of the season. Jonathan Todd had two strong scoreless innings with three strikeouts, before Edinson Batista came in the game and blew the lead for his second blown save of the season and his fifth loss. Arjun Nimmala hit a single, then Carter Cunningham moved him to third with one of his own. Alexis Hernandez grounded into a double play, but Nimmala was sent home and scored despite that. Jay Harry broke the game open with a double after Alexis Hernandez walked and Sean Keys hit a single to score them both. Sean Keys hit his 15th homer of the season to add some insurance runs, and Juanmi Vazquez didn’t allow a hit and stuck out two batters to complete the shutout and earn the save. Sean Keys - 2-4, 2 R, 1 RBI, 1 HR Silvano Hechavarria - 6.2 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (3), Lakeland (9) - 8/21 Box Score Johnny King experienced growing pains for almost the first time this season, only lasting two and two-thirds innings allowing five runs while walking four. He still struck out three batters, but he gave up a career high in homers as well. Manuel Beltre hit a sac fly in the second inning and Yeuni Munoz, who just returned from the IL, continued to hit the ball ridiculously hard with a 112.2 mph single to bring the score within two. The homers continued for Lakeland when Diego Dominguez replaced King, and Ricardo Hurtado hit a two-run homer off of him to double the lead. Jack Eshelman allowed two runs himself after Dominguez went a bit over three innings and allowed two runs himself. The poor start from King prevented them from getting any momentum. Yeuni Munoz - 2-3, 1 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB Yeuni Munoz would have been one of the biggest position player breakouts in the Jays system if he hadn’t gotten hurt, and now has pushed his OPS over 1.000 with a strong game. His breakout is seemingly more real. Diego Dominguez: 3.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Dunedin (1), Tampa (3) - 8/22 Box Score The offense sputtered after a strong first two games of the season, despite Daniel Guerra showing out on the mound. Guerra was sitting 95 mph on the mound, but was taken out of the game with two outs in the fifth inning, and Eliander allowed the inherited runner to score. Jake Casey showed off his power with his third homer of the season to tie the game in the sixth, but Alcalde gave up another two runs after loading the bases and giving up a single to Christian Santana. Grif Hughes struck out three batters in two scoreless innings, but the Jays could not muster up a threat, only having two hits on the night. There were a ton of hits, strikeouts, walks, stolen bases, errors, and even some home runs. New Hampshire started strong with four runs in the top of the first inning. Eddinson Paulino and Alex De Jesus had RBI singles and Dasan Brown had the big hit, driving home two on his double to left. In the second, Jackson Hornung added a run to the lead with his fourth home run at Double-A, a solo shot to right. Alex Amalfi surrendered a run to Binghamton by way of a Kevin Parada single in the third. A throwing error on Binghamton's third baseman in the fourth allowed Brown to score and get the lead back to five. It was an exact repeat in the sixth, as another error on the Binghamton third baseman allowed Brown to score again. From there, the bullpen imploded, coughing up two runs in the eighth and three runs in the ninth, sending the game into extra innings. It just wasn't New Hampshire's night, as Jacob Reimer hit a walk-off home run and New Hampshire fell to Binghamton 9-7. The game featured a combined 16 runs, 20 hits, 16 walks, and 30 strikeouts. Dasan Brown: 3-3, 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, 1 2B, 1 SB Devereaux Harrison: 2.2 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 5 K New Hampshire (2), Binghamton (4) - 8/15 Box Score Fernando Perez made his Double-A debut on Friday night for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats. Binghamton welcomed him to the level with a single and a stolen base, before Jacob Reimer's RBI single scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning. Over the next three innings, Perez only gave up one single and sat the rest down in order. In the top of the fifth, Alex De Jesus tied the game up at one, with an RBI double to left that scored Ryan McCarty. In the bottom of the fifth, Jackson Hornung picked up Perez and threw out a runner at home, a big collision, but Robert Brooks held on to the ball to get the out. To open up the bottom of the sixth, Perez gave up two singles and then was replaced by Hunter Gregory. He would cough up a two RBI single, before being able to escape the jam. In the seventh, a run scored for Binghamton on a wild pitch and then the next half inning, Hornung hit into a double play, as a run came home. It was all New Hampshire would get, as they fell 4-2. Alex De Jesus: 2-4, 0 R, 1 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K, 1 2B Fernando Perez: 5 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (10), Spokane (3) - 8/12 Box Score Austin Cates made his debut for the Canadians and started off well, not allowing a run in his three innings before allowing a homer to Aidan Longwell. Peyton Powell walked, then moved to second on a wild pitch before JR Freethy tied it up with a double. Then Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit one of his own to give the Canadians the lead. Nick Goodwin added another run with a hit to score Micheletti Jr., leading to a three run inning. Cates, however, did not have his best stuff in the fifth inning, allowing a double to Jesus Bugarin before getting two outs. Longwell once again gets a big hit against the Canadians with a double to score two runs, and then Edinson Batista replaced Cates in relief. Batista allowed another hit in this inning which scored Longwell, but then got out of the inning with a strikeout right after but the Canadians lost the lead. The feisty Canadians did not give up however, as Jay Harry and Jacob Lojewski both singled before Carter Cunningham tied it up again with an RBI double. A balk allowed Lojewski to score and Cunningham to move to third, and after Micheletti Jr. was hit by a pitch, Arjun Nimmala hit a sac fly to increase the lead to two. The score stayed the same for the next two half-innings, but in the seventh inning Batista gave up a hit to Tevin Tucker who immediately then stole two bases, and a wild pitch ended up scoring Tucker. Irv Carter replaced Batista and then walked a run in, but then got out of the inning. The Canadians again bounced back the next inning, with Cunningham getting on base and stealing second, and then advancing to third on a fly out. Micheletti Jr. hit a sac fly to take the lead back again, before a Nimmala double and a Goodwin single added an insurance run. Irv Carter then had a quick eighth inning before striking out three batters in the ninth to win the game. J.R. Freethy - 2-5, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 2B Irv Carter - 2.1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 3 K Irv Carter has figured it out in High-A, now with a 2.67 ERA in since June 1st with a 22.6% strikeout rate to a 6.8% walk rate. Vancouver (4), Spokane (6) - 8/13 Box Score The game started out with a bang as J.R. Freethy hit his first High-A homer in the first at-bat of the game. Sean Keys joined in on the fun with a two run homer of his home that same inning, scoring himself and Micheletti Jr. Nick Goodwin got picked off after walking and a Cunningham strikeout ended the inning, but the Canadians were in a good spot early. Aidan Longwell continues to hit Canadians pitchers as he drove in the first run for the Indians with a single, and then in the fifth inning the Indians added another run with a homer from Max Belyeu. Julio Ortiz came in for Chris McElvain and was wild, walking four batters and with two wild pitches, which allowed two runs to score. Arjun Nimmala however tied the game up after Micheletti Jr. was hit by a pitch and advanced to third on two wild pitches with a double. Brett Garcia replaced Ortiz and allowed two runs himself on two homers given up and the Canadians couldn’t bounce back, leading to a six to four loss. Arjun Nimmala - 2-4, 1 RBI, 2 2B Nimmala added to his double total with 27 on the year now, and is up to 42 extra base hits on the season. Chris McElvain - 5 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K McElvain has been a steady contributor to the Canadians rotation after coming back from injury. The starter’s ERA is now 3.69, and despite mediocre strikeout rates he’s able to get outs consistently. Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (1), Tampa (4) - 8/14 Box Score Daniel Guerra returned to starting in the first game of the double-header, but it didn’t go great for the big righty. He allowed a run in the second inning after Maddox Latta deflected a grounder into center field with a runner on second, and then in the third inning he loaded the bases with no outs, then allowed all three of those runners to score to put the Jays in a hole four to nothing. Nate LaRue replaced Guerra and pitched two scoreless innings and Austin Smith hit a homer to keep it from being a scoreless loss. Austin Smith - 2-3, 1 R. 1 RBI, 1 HR The 10th round pick out of San Diego has had a very strong pro debut so far, with a near .900 OPS and hitting his first homer as a professional. Nate LaRue - 2 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K Dunedin (16), Tampa (7) - 8/14 Box Score This one was a laugher after a more quiet first game of the double-header. This was the make up game for a missed July 23rd game and the Jays tacked on 11 runs just on the starter Edinzo Marquez. Every single D-Jay had a hit, and Sean Casey, Yorman Licourt, Eric Snow, and Tucker Toman each had two hits or more. The D-Jays had 13 unanswered runs as Dayne Pengelly had a strong pro debut and Griff Hughes followed suit with two scoreless innings. However Hughes then allowed seven runs in the fifth inning before Jack Eshelman cleaned it up with three innings of scoreless ball. Tucker Toman hit his sixth homer of the season and earned a call up to Vancouver after his strong performance (and the release of Hamilton-raised Bryce Arnold). Eric Snow - 4-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, 2 2B Snow had his best game as a pro, he hasn’t shown much power yet, but he’s had two of his three extra base hits on the season in this game alone. Jack Eshelman - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Dunedin (7), Tampa (6) - 8/15 - F/10 Box Score It was the return of Yeuni Munoz to the starting lineup after an extended IL stint after a great start to the season. Johnny King took the bump and faced only one over the minimum in a strong five inning scoreless outing. Kendry Chirinos hit his sixth homer of the season to give the D-Jays an early lead, and an Austin Smith double scored the second run of the game in the fifth before Chirinos had another RBI with a single that same inning. Lluveres Severino replaced King but immediately let in three runs to tie the game up. The D-Jays fired back with a three-run inning of their own as both Manuel Beltre and Austin Smith were hit by pitches before an Eric Snow single and a botched pick off attempt that led into a wild pitch scoring both Beltre and Smith. Eric Snow got out trying to go home, but Kendry Chirinos picked up another run with a double to double the Tarpons' score. Jay Schueler replaced Severino and in the bottom of the ninth hit a batter, gave up a single, and then allowed Marshall Toole to hit a three-run homer to tie the game. In extras, Manuel Beltre hit a sac fly after Dariel Ramon was put in as a pinch runner, and Schueler got three outs to escape with a win in extras. Johnny King - 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 5 K King lowered his season ERA to 1.56 in a dominant performance, this time allowing no walks for the first time in Low-A. The talented lefty had seven whiffs on the night and was sitting 93 on his fastball. Kendry Chirinos - 3-4, 1 R, 3 RBI, 1 HR DSL Blue Jays Blue D-BJB (0), D-TI1 (1) F/7- 8/14 - Game 1 Box Score In game one of the doubleheader, BJB was virtually blanketed across the board. Only Juarlin Soto and Cristopher Polanco had hits (singles) and only Soto and Yeicer Crespo walked. The pitching was great, Jose Andrades pitched four solid innings, only giving up one run, while Rodrigo Ramirez added three no-hit innings. BJB fell 1-0 in a pitchers duel. In the bottom half of the inning, Nate Eaton smacked a ball over the left center field fence, giving Worcester the lead. Buffalo lost this one 2-1. Connelly Early shut down Buffalo, going five innings, striking out seven, and only giving up two runs on a Riley Tirotta home run in the second inning. The first inning saw both teams trade runs, a sacrifice fly from Michael Stefanic for Buffalo and a Kristian Campbell RBI ground out for Worcester. In the fourth and fifth innings, Worcester tacked on two more runs via an RBI double and a sacrifice fly. Jhostynxon Garcia smashed a home run in the eighth inning to finish off the scoring, as Buffalo lost this game as well, 5-2. Riley Tirotta- 1-3, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR CJ Van Eyk- 4.1 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 3 BB, 6 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (3), Reading (4) - 8/7 Box Score Thursday's game against Reading had eyes from all Blue Jays fans on it, as Alek Manoah continues to work his way through the minor leagues on a rehab assignment. It was his first start at Double A and the first real big test of his arm. To open the game, he induced some weak contact and got a strikeout to end the top of the first. In the top of the second, he got a little wild with his command, surrendering a walk followed by two consecutive singles that brought home a run. He then hit the next batter, before getting a groundout from Carson DeMartini to escape the jam. The third inning was better for Manoah, he got two groundouts and a strikeout, with a double and a walk sprinkled throughout the inning. Unfortunately for Manoah, another double and a walk chased him from the game in the fourth. Geison Urbaez would come in for him and throw a wild pitch, allowing a run to score before getting out of the inning. In the bottom of the fourth, Je'Von Ward continued his hot stretch and launched his third home run for New Hampshire, a two-run blast tying the game. Jackson Hornung's RBI single in the sixth gave the Fisher Cats a one-run lead, which they would hold onto until the top of the ninth. Felix Reyes singled home a run for Reading and sent the game to extra innings. Each team was blanketed, until in the top of the twelfth, when Reading got an RBI single from Reyes in what would become the winning run. New Hampshire lost this game 4-3, fueled in part by striking out 18 times (11 by Reading's starter Griff McGarry). He gave up a double and a stolen base to Reading's Aidan Miller, then a groundout scored him. In the bottom of the second, New Hampshire got on a roll, getting an RBI single from Dasan Brown, a sacrifice fly from Robert Brooks, and an RBI double from Victor Arias. Yesavage finally entered the game to begin the top of the third and he was off early before settling in and getting on a roll. In the fourth, he coughed up a solo home run to Dylan Campbell, but struck out the side in the fifth and added two more strikeouts in the sixth. In the seventh it was Campbell again, smacking a double, stealing third base, and coming around to score on a sacrifice fly. With the game tied at three, Yesavage was replaced by Conor Larkin who struggled mightily. He gave up back-to-back singles, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI double, putting New Hampshire in a two-run hole that they would not climb out of. The Fisher Cats fell 5-3. However, when Bryce Arnold walked in the third, he was then moved to second on a J.R. Freethy single. After that a throwing error by the Hops catcher Kenny Castillo on a pickoff attempt allowed Arnold to score. Arjun Nimmala drove in Freethy a few batters late, as the Canadians went up early. Edinson Batista was taken out after five scoreless innings, and Irv Carter came in and gave up a run off of a Druw Jones double and an Angel Ortiz single. Daniel Eagen and Gage Stanifer both had ten strikeouts each as they made it very difficult for the opposing team’s hitters to do much. Stanifer did allow a run early though, as Druw Jones drove in a run in the first, but until the fifth inning Stanifer prevented runs from scoring, before Slade Caldwell made it a 2-0 lead. Kai Peterson also gave up his first run in a while in the eighth, but also pitched well, as he saved the pen with three innings of one run ball. Meanwhile the Hops went eight innings without allowing a single hit before Alexis Hernandez broke the no-hitter in the ninth off of Edgar Isea with a single, and then Bryce Arnold was hit by a pitch before Freethy loaded the bases with a single. Palm Beach got their second and last run of the game in the third, as the D-Jays continued to pile on more. Yorman Licourt had his first couple of hits. Maddox Latta tripled in the fifth and Kendry Chirinos hit a single to make it a final score of eight to two. They only managed four hits in the game and two walks. The only big hit they had was a solo home run by Angel Guzman in the top of the sixth inning. He actually ended the day adding a single and a walk, being responsible for half of the baserunners BJB would have. On the flip side, the pitchers for BJB struggled most of the game, surrendering eight runs on 10 hits. Their fielding was also sub-par, an error on Juarlin Soto and Cristopher Polanco would keep the doors open and lead to three of the eight runs being unearned. BJB just didn't have it on this day, falling to GIO 8-1. BJB managed to have even less hits in this one, only recording two base knocks, singles by Darwin Nuñez and Franklin Rojas. It wasn't all doom and gloom though, BJB did rack up 10 walks in the game. It was a large number of baserunners, but they were offset by the massive 11 strikeouts in the game. BJB had only one run cross home plate, it was Nuñez's RBI single in the bottom of the third that scored Soto from second base. BJB fell in another rough game, 4-1. Blanco added to the BJR lead in the fifth, when he hit a single to right field, bringing in Juan Sanchez to score the fourth run of the game. In the seventh, a bases loaded walk brought the BJR score to three runs, but between the third and seventh innings, the Angels DSL team kept rounding the bases. 12 runs scored for ANG, including three home runs, a triple, a couple singles, and a few bases loaded walks. We are deep into the heart of summer now, and as July wraps up, we take a look back at the stellar performances across the Toronto Blue Jays' minor league system and hand out the starting pitcher awards. We have the top five, which includes the Starting Pitcher of the Month and the honorable mentions to reveal. It was more challenging to come to a conclusion as to who would make it as an honorable mention and who was going to take home the mythical and coveted top spot as the best starting pitcher in the Toronto Blue Jays' farm system. The pitching across July has been spectacular; unfortunately for the farm system, the Blue Jays traded three of their top pitching prospects and threw everything into chaos. Hopefully, those trades can propel the big league team to a magical and deep playoff run. Let's dive into the best starting pitchers for July. Honorable Mentions -Kendry Rojas, Double-A New Hampshire - 18.2 IP, 18 H, 8 ER, 2.7% BB-Rate, 40% K-Rate (Stats with the Blue Jays) Kendry Rojas would have been the starting pitcher of the month if he were still with the Toronto Blue Jays organization. Unfortunately, or thankfully, depending on your view, he was moved at the trade deadline for help at the major league level. Rojas started the season late, after missing the first two months recovering from an injury. He coasted through four starts at Single-A Dunedin in June, before receiving a promotion up to Double-A New Hampshire at the start of July. Despite a rough debut for the Fisher Cats, where he was touched up for the first time on the season, in his next two starts, he showed off his ace-level pitch arsenal. He combined to go 9.2 innings, only surrendering one run, one walk, and striking out 18 hitters. Rojas has a good four-pitch mix, three of which have excellent metrics and grade out very well when considering in-game results. His fastball and sinker stand out above his other two pitches and are elite weapons for him. For the season, his swing and miss ability, control, and his skills at inducing weak contact have been well above average. If he can continue his run through Double-A to end the season, don't be surprised if he pushes for a major league call-up by mid-season in 2026. -Juaron Watts-Brown, 16.1 IP, 1.286 WHIP, 4.41 ERA, 13% BB-Rate, 24.6% K-Rate Juaron Watts-Brown is another pitcher that would have made the top five list, but instead the Blue Jays decided to ship him off to help the major league team make a run at the playoffs. For July, Watts-Brown had some ups and downs, but ultimately had bookend stellar games. In those two games, he went 12 innings, only gave up two runs, and struck out 12. On the season, Watts-Brown was nearly elite at getting swing and misses, as well as striking batters out. His struggles were in giving up hard contact when hitters did connect with his pitches. -Khal Stephen, Double-A New Hampshire - 16 IP, 0.750 WHIP, 2.81 ERA, 3.4% BB-Rate, 22.4% K-Rate Stephen was the most high-profile prospect traded by the Blue Jays and would have also been in the top five starting pitchers for the month. He was garnering top 100 prospect status across the majority of sites and is going to hurt the most by losing him. Stephen made three starts in the month, with his best two being the last ones at High-A Vancouver and his worst start being his lone appearance for Double-A New Hampshire. The good on the month was 12 innings, one earned run, 11 strikeouts, and only one walk. The bad, his four innings at Double-A, where he gave up five runs (four earned) over four innings, and struck out just two. Stephen possesses an elite strike-throwing ability and control, which leads to his high-end swing and miss stuff. His four-seam fastball is his elite pitch and graded out extremely well while he pitched at Single-A Dunedin. For the rest of the season, he needs to work on improving his secondary offerings, as they fall behind his fastball. 5. Bryan Borbon, DSL Blue Jays Red - 16.2 IP, 0.840 WHIP, 1.08 ERA, 4.6% BB-Rate, 18.5% K-Rate Borbon makes this list due to the many trades the Blue Jays made at the deadline, sending away a number of their top pitching prospects. Borbon is a 17-year-old, pitching in the Dominican Summer League, so his production carries a little more weight. In his best two games during July, he combined to throw nine innings, not surrendering a run, only walking one batter, and striking out six. He could be someone to watch more closely, especially if he comes stateside in 2026. 4. Anders Tolhurst, Triple-A Buffalo - 26.1 IP, 0.797 WHIP, 1.37 ERA, 4.0% BB-Rate, 23.0% K-Rate It has been a down season for Anders Tolhurst, but the month of July was his moment in the sun. He went five innings or more in all five of his starts in the month and only gave up runs in two of the games. In his three best starts, he combined to pitch 16 1/3 innings, only surrendering nine hits, and struck out 13. The best parts of those three games were the combined zero runs he gave up and only three walks. For the year, Tolhurst has had some major problems with getting weak contact, swings, and misses. His most used pitches are his fastball and cutter, but they have not been producing good results. He has given up 11 home runs on just those two pitches. He will need to have a repeat of July to remain relevant and keep any chance of a call-up in 2026 alive. 3. Austin Cates, Low-A Dunedin - 20 IP, 0.850 WHIP, 0.90 ERA, 4.1% BB-Rate, 29.7% K-Rate Austin Cates was the model of consistency during July. He made four starts, going five innings in all of them, giving up zero runs in three, and two runs in one. His best game came against a tough Bradenton lineup, which happens to have one of the hottest prospects in baseball, Edward Florentino. Cates made easy work of the team, going five strong innings, only surrendering two hits, one walk, striking out six, and did not let a runner cross home plate. Cates has a three-pitch arsenal and relies heavily on his fastball and splitter (80.9%). Of the two, his fastball grades out as the best pitch he throws, while his other offerings have been subpar. He has been getting hit harder this year when batters make contact and will need to focus on improving his command and control of his pitch mix to help him reduce the hard contact. 2. Grant Rogers, Double-A New Hampshire - 30.2 IP, 1.174 WHIP, 3.23 ERA, 2.3% BB-Rate, 13.3% K-Rate With the Toronto Blue Jays trading away three of the top pitchers for July, Grant Rogers gets a massive boost in this list and comes in second for starting pitchers. Rogers has been a quality start machine this season, and July was more of the same for him. He amassed three quality starts for the month and came close in the other two starts. He worked deep into every game, going six or more innings in four of them and 5 2/3 in his last one. The highlight of his month came in his two games against a potent Somerset lineup. To start that series, he went six innings but got touched up for four runs. He made some adjustments, and in his second game against Somerset that week, he went six innings again, but held their bats to just one run in the game. There is a major weakness that Rogers has right now: his lack of any swing-and-miss stuff. He doesn't get strikeouts and relies heavily on getting hitters to make weak contact. It would be great for his development if he could develop a pitch he can go to in order to get strikeouts and swing and misses, but to be a back-end of the rotation starter or a bulk relief pitcher, he can ride his control to the major leagues. Minor League Starting Pitcher of the Month 1. Johnny King, Rookie-Ball FCL Jays - 13 IP, 1.615 WHIP, 2.77 ERA, 19.4% BB-Rate, 43.5% K-Rate Johnny King has not only been one of the hottest Blue Jays starting pitchers but also one of the best pitchers in all of the minor leagues over his last few starts. He started his season late due to an injury and is now getting into a groove. Over his last three games in July, he combined to throw 11 innings, giving up only seven hits, one run, and striking out an eye-popping 23 batters (44% strikeout rate). His biggest weakness so far this year has been the walks. For the month, he walked 12 (19.4% walk rate) and wasn't able to control the running as much; seven bases were stolen on him. King has a filthy pitch arsenal that is led by his sinker and it grades out as an elite offering. His other two main pitches are a slider and curveball, which he throws much less often, but they garner a much higher percentage of swing and misses. For the remainder of the season, he needs to work on improving his strike throwing and command, as he ranks relatively low on those when compared to other pitchers in the minor leagues. Expect him to remain at Single-A Dunedin this season and start out at High-A Vancouver in 2026. View full article

Sproat has been on a big-time roll, allowing only two earned runs in his last five games. This game was no different. He used a deep pitch mix and an upper-90s fastball to repeatedly fool and beat the Buffalo hitters. He went five innings, not allowing a run and striking out nine batters. Adam Macko was on the mound for the Bisons and was pretty solid himself. He went four innings, only surrendered one run, on three hits, but walked six batters. The Mets took the lead by one in the second inning on a Luis De Los Santos RBI double. They extended the lead to two with an RBI single in the eighth by Yonny Hernández. Buffalo mounted a rally in the bottom half of the inning, as Orelvis Martinez rocketed a double to left field, scoring Buddy Kennedy. That would be all the scoring the Bisons could do, losing the game 2-1. Adam Macko- 4 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 6 BB, 2 K Buffalo (3), Syracuse (5) - 8/1 Box Score Buffalo kicked off August in a hole, as Syracuse jumped out to a three-run lead in this game. They would score a run in each of the first three innings, a Jared Young solo blast, a run scoring on a David Villar double play ball, and Luke Ritter drove in a run with a single. In the sixth, Buffalo got on the scoreboard via a two-RBI single from the rehabbing Alejandro Kirk. Later in the inning, Buddy Kennedy knocked in a run on a sacrifice fly. Things went south in the seventh and eighth innings for Buffalo, as Hayden Senger and Luke Ritter both launched solo home runs to center field. Luke Ritter's home run was a mammoth one, traveling 446 feet. Buffalo would struggle to add hits in this game as well, Syracuse shut them down to finish this one out and defeat the Bisons 5-3. Alejandro Kirk- 1-3, 0 R. 2 RBI, 0 BB, 0 K CJ Van Eyk- 5 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 7 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (), Chesapeake () - 7/31 PPD New Hampshire (7), Chesapeake (5) - 8/1 Box Score After Thursday's game against Chesapeake was rained out, New Hampshire was in store for a pitcher's duel on Friday night. Trey Yesavage was on the mound facing off against Trey Gibson for Chesapeake. From the start of the game it was as advertised, with Gibson striking out Jackson Hornung and Charles McAdoo. Yesavage couldn't match him in the bottom half of the inning, only striking out one. In the second, Gibson continued with his swing and miss stuff, striking out two more. It was Yesavage's turn next and he was dealing, getting three strikeouts (all swinging), with just a single in between them. In the third, New Hampshire got their first hit of the game, a single by Dasan Brown, but the hit and the inning were wiped out by a double play. Chesapeake got on the scoreboard first in the bottom half of the third, it was a double by Jalen Velasquez and then a sacrifice bunt scored him when Alex Stone threw the ball away. After a single to the next batter and in a jam, Yesavage settled in and struck the next three batters out (one swinging and two looking). New Hampshire fought back in the top of the fourth with Charles McAdoo getting on from a single and then stealing second base. From there, he would score when Ryan McCarty put a ball in play that resulted in an error on Chesapeake's shortstop. Both starting pitchers were magnificent and left the game in a 1-1 tie. In the sixth, New Hampshire's Eddinson Paulino launched his tenth home run of the season to give them a one-run lead. Later in the inning, Ryan McCarty singled home Victor Arias to make it a two-run game. That is where things stood until the eighth inning, when another error by Chesapeake allowed two runs to score and give New Hampshire some breathing room. They would add another run in the inning on a wild pitch that allowed McAdoo to score. In the ninth, the Fisher Cats put three more up on the scoreboard with a bases-loaded walk by McCarty, Paulino scoring on another error, and McAdoo scoring on yet another wild pitch. New Hampshire took the early pitcher's duel 9-2, with some late game miscues from Chesapeake and only three hits in the game. Eddinson Paulino: 1-2, 3 R, 1 RBI, 2 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Trey Yesavage: 4 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 9 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (4), Tri-City (1) - 7/31 Box Score This was a day of pitching excellence from the Canadians, as Jackson Wentworth started the Canadians off with five scoreless innings. The Canadians offense also threatened early, as the bases were loaded with no outs in the top of the second inning, but the Canadians got the dreaded NOBLETIGER, not scoring a single run. The game would remain scoreless until the fifth inning, where after a Nick Goodwin walk, Arjun Nimmala hit a single to move him to second, Carter Cunningham then walked to get to third, and then Alexis Hernandez continued his excellence since arriving at Vancouver, scoring the first run of the game with an RBI-single. The next inning the Canadians continued to score more runs, with the Dust Devils continuing to put them on base, as Jay Harry got hit by a pitch and Bryce Arnold and Goodwin both got walked to load the bases once again with no outs, and Sean Keys added to the lead with an RBI-groundout. In the top of the seventh, the Canadians added another, after Peyton Powell made his way to third after a walk, wild pitch and a ground out from Jay Harry, before Arnold scored him with a single. The Dust Devils had their first run of the game against Javen Coleman in the bottom of the eight on a double, but the Canadians answered back with a Harry double and then Coleman completed the save winning the game. Alexis Hernandez - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 2B Hernandez has had a .625 avg and a 2.167 OPS since joining Vancouver. Jackson Wentworth - 5 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K Vancouver (3), Tri-City (4) - 8/31 Box Score Edinson Batista took the bump and struggled mightily, only being able to get two outs while allowing four walks and a HBP to allow three earned runs to score. Johan Simon replaced him in the first inning and got out of it, but the Canadians were still down three runs early. Bryce Arnold hit a double to score Jay Harry in the second to score the first run for Vancouver, but Cole Fontenelle answered back with a single to make it four to one. The Canadians pitching would not allow a single run after that, as the bullpen was excellent, with 12 strikeouts in seven and a thirds innings pitched, to help keep them in the game. Alexis Hernandez reaching on an error helped Carter Cunningham cross the plate for another run to cut the lead to two, and Arjun Nimmala added another run with an RBI-single in the fourth, but they were unable to score after that, only getting on base five more times without an extra base hit. Arjun Nimmala - 1-3, 1 RBI, 1 BB Julio Ortiz - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 K Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (4), Lakeland (3) - 7/31 - F/11 Box Score Landen Maroudis had a better start, only walking three batters this time in four innings of one run ball. He did walk Zach MacDonald with the bases loaded in the first, but settled down after that. His stuff quality has not recovered yet but he’s been able to get outs despite that. Maddox Latta continues to have a good start to his pro career, with an RBI single to score Toman in the second to tie it up. The D-Jays took the lead in the fourth with a sac fly from Manuel Beltre, but then the Flying Tigers bounced back against Gilberto Batista, as a homer in the sixth from Cristian Santana and another run scored off an error in the seventh gave them the lead. The Flying Tigers gave up the lead right after, with the Jays getting on base with a few singles, and after Braden Barry got caught stealing second base and a Jaxson West walk, Antonio Florido gave up a run on a balk. Mason Olson came in to replace Batista, and was nearly perfect, with four scoreless innings, and the game remained tied going into extras. The 10th inning had no runners get on base, as Olson continued to pitch well, but in the bottom of the 11th Tucker Toman had the walk-off hit to end the game. Tucker Toman - 2-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, 1 BB, 1 SB Mason Olson - 4 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 3 K Dunedin (0), Fort Myers (4) - 8/31 Box Score Austin Cates wasn’t as sharp today, as he had a rough fifth inning where Marek Houston singled to score a run, and then after Cates was taken out of the game, Daniel Guerra gave up a homer to allow the two inherited runners to score immediately after. The D-Jays offense sputtered for the first time since the new players had arrived, as they were only able to muster up five hits and a walk without scoring any runs. The closest a D-Jay was to scoring was in the top of the first, with Manuel Beltre getting to third after a double and a wild pitch, but he was left stranded. They coughed up 14 runs on only eight hits. How is that possible you might be wondering, well here's the answer, 20 walks! BJB pitchers gave up free pass, after free pass this game and the carousel kept turning. Down 14-0 in the top of the sixth, BJB finally got on the scoreboard. Elian Reyes singled home Juarlin Soto and the comeback was on. In the seventh inning, Angel Guzman added a run on a an RBI single and another run scored on Yeicer Crespo's gound out to third. Cristopher Polanco knocked in a run in the eighth with a single to center, but Reyes was thrown out at home trying to score as well. BJB also got a run in the ninth from Soto's sacrifice fly. It was a brutal loss, 14-5 for BJB. The lone Columbus run in the game came in the bottom of the eighth by way of a Kody Huff RBI double. In the second inning, Christian Bethancourt had an RBI groundout and then Daulton Varsho smacked a two-run home run. In the seventh, Buffalo had another big inning. Rojas started the game with a strikeout of Cole Carrigg, then came five straight hits. The highlight of the hit string was an RBI double by Bryant Betancourt, but they scored an additional two runs on two RBI singles as well. In the bottom of the second inning, Je'Von Ward knocked a single to right field, moving Eddinson Paulino to third base. A wild pitch would score Paulino, Gabriel Martinez doubled home Ward, and then scored on Alex De Jesus’ single to right. With the game all-squared at three headed into the third inning, Kendry Rojas again had some more trouble, coughing up a lead-off home run to Jared Thomas. It was again poor pitch placement for Rojas in the fourth, as Zach Kokoska got a hold of a pitch and sent it over the fence to right field for a solo home run. New Hampshire had a few more scoring opportunities in the bottom of the eighth and ninth innings, but they were snuffed out on a double play ball and then a strikeout to end the game. The Fisher Cats dropped the game 6-3. The Fisher Cats had Juaron Watts-Brown going for them on the mound and Hartford countered with McCade Brown toeing the rubber. New Hampshire got on the scoreboard first, getting a lead-off walk from Jackson Hornung and then a two-run home run from Eddinson Paulino. In the bottom of the second, McCade Brown got touched up again. Dasan Brown was hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then scored on a balk. Paulino crushed his second two-run home run of the game later in the inning, after Hornung reached via a hit by pitch as well. Hartford finally got on the scoreboard in the top of the third inning, with an RBI single from Juan Guerrero. Hornung would get that run back in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly, scoring Gabriel Martinez. The Canadians got to an early lead on a double steal from Arjun Nimmala and Cutter Coffey stealing home. Chris McElvain pitched a solid five innings, but gave up a run on a double play ball in the top of the fifth inning. The Emeralds got two more runs on a sac fly from Drew Cavanaugh and a homer from Jack Payton as the Canadians had to resort to a position player pitching in the recently promoted Peyton Powell. However, an Arjun Nimmala RBI-single and a Nick Goodwin RBI double tied the game up in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extras. Peyton Powell somehow went two scoreless innings after the ninth, and Eddie Micheletti Jr. hit a walk-off fielder’s choice to win it for the Canadians. Carter Cunningham came back with a homer in the bottom of the second, and then Cutter Coffey helped the Canadians take the lead with a two-run homer. The Emeralds scored another two runs in the fourth inning against Wentworth off a Guillermo Williamson two-RBI single. They tacked on an insurance run in the seventh, but Cutter Coffey hit an RBI-double to bring it within one in the bottom of that same inning, and Bryce Arnold had his first Vancouver homer to tie it up in the bottom of the ninth. Buffalo Bisons Buffalo (3), Omaha (7) - 7/18 Box Score In the first game out of the All-Star break for the Buffalo Bisons, they kicked off their series against the Omaha Storm Chasers. It was much the same with the Bisons. Bad offense and even worse pitching. The Storm Chasers got to Buffalo starting pitcher Adam Macko right away. A lead-off double was followed up later in the inning by a Carter Jensen single, a Dairon Blanco triple, and a Joey Wiemer double to put the Storm Chasers up three in the first inning. In the top of the fourth, the Bisons fell down by another run on an RBI single from Diego Castillo. A wild pitch in the fifth brought the Bisons a run closer, then Ali Sánchez and Yohendrick Pinango added RBI doubles to make it a one-run game in the sixth. Unfortunately, an RBI single for the Storm Chasers and MJ Melendez's solo blast put the game out of reach, as the Bisons lost this one 7-3. Rainer Nunez- 2-3, 1 R, 0 RBI, 1 BB, 0 K Hunter Gregory- 2 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K New Hampshire Fisher Cats New Hampshire (1), Binghamton (3) - 7/18 Box Score New Hampshire came out of the All-Star break with a series against the Binghamton Rumble Ponies. It was a real tough test for the Fisher Cats, as Binghamton sent budding star prospect Jonah Tong to the mound and they countered with a stud of their own, Kendry Rojas. Rojas started off in a jam, giving up back-to-back singles to begin the game. A wild pitch from him would score a run and put New Hampshire in a hole quickly. After walking another batter, Rojas escaped the early predicament by striking out Jacob Reimer and Chris Suero. In the bottom half of the inning, the Fisher Cats tried to match Binghamton. Jackson Hornung led-off the game with a walk, Charles McAdoo singled him over to third and then stole second base, putting pressure on Tong. Ryan McCarty grounded out, scoring Hornung and tying the game up at one. Unfortunately for New Hampshire, Je’Von Ward struck out swinging to end their at-bat and scoring threat. From there, both pitchers settled in really well and started striking out hitters left and right. Tong left the game after 5.1 innings and struck out seven, while Rojas just went 4.2 innings and struck out eight. Binghamton added RBI singles in the sixth and seventh innings and New Hampshire didn't manage to get another run across home plate, as they fell 3-1. Jackson Hornung: 2-3, 1 R, 1 BB, 1 K Kendry Rojas: 4.2 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 8 K Vancouver Canadians Vancouver (4), Spokane (1) - 7/18 Box Score Edward Duran got hit first start for the Vancouver Canadians as he just got promoted, and he helped Chris McElvain pitch a strong first four innings of no-run ball. McElvain struck out five batters as he’s slowly been very effective since coming back from injury. Brye Arnold was the main RBI-guy for the Canadians, as the Hamilton native knocked in two out of four of the runs scored by the Canadians. Johan Simon has been excellent since he was promoted, and he continued that with three strong innings, allowing only one hit. Bryce Arnold - 1-3, 2 RBI Johan Simon - 3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 4 Dunedin Blue Jays Dunedin (4), Tampa (3) - 7/18 Box Score The D-Jays return after a break and after quite a few of their best players getting promoted to Vancouver, the Jays end up winning anyways. It was a team effort, as all but Braden Barry got on base at least one time. Landen Maroudis continues to struggle with his velocity and command, walking six batters in two and one-third innings pitched, but only allowing one run.The Jays went down after a throwing error from Pardinho in the fifth inning, and a wild pitch by Jay Scheler made it a two run lead. Jacob Loejwski hit a homer to tie it up after Yhoangel Aponte got on base, and then JR Freethy hit the game winning homer immediately after. He shut down the Yankees team for five innings, while giving up just three hits, zero walks, zero runs, and striking out two batters. The bats weren't doing much for either side, but Aldo Gaxiola drove in a run in the fourth inning via an RBI single to left field. In the sixth, the Blue Jays added two runs on a catcher's interference and a ground ball single to center from Dariel Ramon. In the seventh, they put up their fourth run of the game on a balk. The Blue Jays team won this game 4-0 in a shutout. RJ Schreck- 1-3, 2 R, 0 RBI, 2 BB, 0 K Sann Omosako- 5 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K F-BLU (3), F-YAN (0) - 7/17 Box Score In the Thursday game, the Blue Jays team faced off against the Yankees squad again and it was almost a carbon copy of their previous game. The Blue Jays had the same amount of hits and the Yankees equaled their hit total as well. It was a pitcher’s duel for six innings, then Andres Arias stole second base and he ended up scoring due to an error from the catcher and center fielder on the play. In the seventh, Yorman Licourt added a run for the Blue Jays on a sacrifice fly and David Beckles put them up three with an RBI single. The Blue Jays would win this 3-0. Andres Arias- 1-1, 1 R, 0 RBI, 2 BB, 0 K Mason Olson- 6 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 7 K F-BLU (5), F-YAN (3) - 7/18 Box Score The Phillies team took the lead in this one when Isaias Dipre singled home a run in the fourth inning and it was followed by Adrian Garcia driving in two more. In the sixth inning, David Beckles cut the deficit to two runs by driving in a run on a single himself. In the seventh, Drew Jemison brought the Blue Jays team within one, with another RBI single. In the ninth, two singles and a walk loaded the bases for Beckles, who cleared the bases with a line drive double to left field. Lluveres Severino would come on to pitch for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the ninth and he set the Phillies team down, 1, 2, and 3 to finish the game. The Blue Jays team won the game 5-3. David Beckles- 3-4, 0 R, 4 RBI, 0 BB, 1 K, 2 2B Troy Guthrie- 4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 K DSL Blue Jays Blue D-BJB (5), D-ANG (3) F/7 - 7/15 Box Score While much of the minor leagues was off for the All-Star break, baseball continued to be played down on the island. BJB faced off against ANG in a fun matchup. BJB was the first on the scoreboard, notching two runs in the second inning. One scored when J.T. Bain was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Esmeiquel Arrieche grounded out, scoring another. In the fourth inning, BJB added a run on a blast to left field from Wilmer Blanca, his first home run of the season. In the sixth, Bain singled to left field, scoring Juarlin Soto, but Blanca was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning. BJB coughed up two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a groundout and an error by Soto. They got one of those runs back in the top of the seventh, when Yeicer Crespo singled to left and scored Arrieche. In the bottom of the seventh, ANG got a run on an RBI double, but that was all they would get, as BJB won the game 5-3. They only managed three hits, one walk, and two hit by pitches all game. With the runners few and very far between, BJB struggled to get on the scoreboard and in fact failed to do so. It was, however, a good day for their pitchers, despite the loss. Deiker Pineda and Edrwin Veras combined to throw nine innings and did not give up an earned run. All three runs that came across home plate were all unearned. BJB lost the game 3-0. Cristopher Polanco: 1-3 Deiker Pineda: 5 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 1 K D-BJB (12), D-TWI (9) - 7/18 Box Score The game Friday morning for BJB was a massive offensive outburst, they scored three runs in four separate innings. A bases-loaded balk kicked off the scoring for BJB, as Elian Reyes came in to score. Yeicer Crespo capped off the scoring in the fifth with a two-RBI double that scored Cristopher Polanco and Franklin Rojas. In the sixth, J.T. Bain doubled home Esmeiquel Arrieche, Daniel Dominguez scored on a wild pitch, and Polanco grounded out with Bain scoring the third run of the inning. The seventh saw two runs scored on a throwing error and another cross home plate on Reyes’ single. In the eighth, Crespo singled home a run and two more scored on Arrieche's double to left field. BJB needed all of those 12 runs, as their pitching was lit up just as much, surrendering nine runs to TWI, but they managed to win 12-9. Juan Sanchez got an infield single, stole second base, then moved over to third on Elaineiker Coronado's ground out. The next batter, Kennew Blanco, singled home Sanchez to give BJR the 1-0 lead, but was thrown out stealing second base and ended the scoring threat. In the bottom of the sixth inning, Randy Soto came across home plate to score a run on a wild pitch. Later in the inning, Juan Sanchez got an RBI single, scoring Pascual Archila and adding to the BJR lead. The three runs was more than enough for BJR, as their pitchers shut out the bats from the NAT team which led to a 3-0 win. Juan Sanchez: 4-4, 1 R, 1 RBI, SB Roberto Castellanos: 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 3 K D-BJR (7), D-MEO (2) F/7 - 7/16 Box Score The only game in the entire organization on Wednesday took place in the DSL, with BJR completing a suspended game against MEO. One of the Mets’ good young players, Elian Peña, had homered in the first inning. Juan Sanchez actually matched him as well with his first home run of the season back on June 16th before the stoppage. Up 5-2 when the game resumed, BJR added two runs in the bottom of the sixth on Randy Soto's single. That's where the game would stand as BJR got the final out in the top of the seventh on a ground out to shortstop, they won this one 7-2. Juan Sanchez: 1-2, 3 R, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 1 K, 1 HR Bryan Borbon: 5 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K D-BJR (4), D-ANG (5) - 7/17 Box Score BJR did most of their damage in this game in the third inning and in fact on one swing of the bat. Renyel Campos and Juan Sanchez got on base via singles, then Kennew Blanco walked to load the bases. Randy Soto came to the plate and with one swing cleared the bases on a triple to center field. Pascual Archila added a run from his double to right field in the top of the sixth inning, scoring Soto. BJR took the 4-0 lead into the bottom of the ninth, where the bullpen imploded in epic fashion. Aided by an error from Elaineiker Coronado, BJR coughed up four runs, but they weren't done. ANG would walk it off on a wild pitch, giving BJR the 5-4 loss. Two walks and a single loaded the bases up for Juan Sanchez, who smacked a single to drive in Pascual Archila from third base. Two batters later, Kennew Blanco would come up with a big hit himself, singling and scoring two more runs for BJR. With the game all tied up at three, Keegan Pieternella grounded out, scoring Archila and giving BJR the lead by one. In the bottom of the eighth with the game tied, Nicolas Vergara came up to bat and had his biggest hit of the season, not just in distance, but also in importance. He blasted a ball over the right field fence for his first home run of the year and would also provide BJR the winning run, as they won the game 5-4.
